Ahead of Christmas this year, Messi will officially launch his own youth football tournament – the Messi Cup – for the U16 age group. This is the first time the tournament has been held, taking place from December 9th to 14th in Miami, USA.
According to the announcement, eight of the world's top youth teams will participate, including two representatives from England: Chelsea and Manchester City. In addition, the tournament will feature renowned academies such as Barcelona, Newell's Old Boys, Inter Milan, River Plate, Atletico Madrid, and notably Inter Miami, Messi's current team.
Eight teams will be divided into two groups, playing a round-robin format. The tournament will then proceed to a play-off round to determine the final standings. Most matches will be held at Chase Stadium – Inter Miami's home arena – and at practice facilities in the surrounding area.
Tim Pastore, CEO of Messi's media company 525 Rosario, emphasized: “The Messi Cup is where today's football meets future stars. It's not just a platform to showcase talent, but also an opportunity to connect cultures, communities, and build lasting legacies beyond the pitch.”
This event marks a new step for Messi in creating an international platform for young players, helping to promote soccer in the United States.
