Messi makes MLS history.

With two goals in the first half, scored in the 27th and 38th minutes, helping Inter Miami win against New England Revolution, Messi became the first player in MLS history to score more than one goal in four consecutive regular season games, according to the MLS website, which also stated that this was a historic achievement.

Previously, Messi also became the first player since Thierry Henry in 2012 to score at least two goals and provide one assist in three consecutive MLS matches. This included a brace and an assist in wins against CF Montreal (4-2 on May 29th), Columbus Crew (5-1 on June 1st) (both at home), and the recent 4-1 away win against CF Montreal (7-1 on July 6th).

Messi's brilliant form has been maintained both before and after the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™, where he also scored a spectacular free-kick goal, showing that the Argentine star, who just turned 38, continues to radiate happiness and joy in competition. He is extremely well-prepared for the 2026 World Cup.

With his two latest goals in the win against New England Revolution, including the second goal scored by Messi from outside the penalty area, which also marked his 100th goal scored from outside the box and in an open play.

This number is also the highest in the history of world football. Messi also reached the milestone of scoring a total of 54 goals, the most in the history of Inter Miami in just 65 matches, and 20 more than the second-placed Suarez.

Forward Leonardo Campana ranks third with 32 goals in 100 games. He moved to New England Revolution in the 2025 season and once again had to watch his senior teammate, Messi, become Inter Miami's all-time leading goalscorer.

With their fourth consecutive win in MLS, Inter Miami has climbed to fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings with 35 points after 18 games. They are just 3 to 7 points behind the leaders, including Columbus Crew, Philadelphia Union, Nashville SC, and FC Cincinnati, while still having three games in hand.

In July, Inter Miami will play four more matches at a very high frequency, averaging one match every three days. These include two games against FC Cincinnati (July 17th and 27th), Nashville SC (July 13th), and New York Red Bulls (July 20th).

If they win these matches, Messi and Inter Miami could overtake the top spot in MLS before embarking on their campaign to win the Leagues Cup (starting July 31). In this tournament, Messi will likely receive encouragement from his close friend Rodrigo De Paul, who is close to completing a transfer to Inter Miami from Atletico Madrid in Spain.
