Michael Douglas receives the Honorary Palme d'Or.

Cannes Film Festival organizers announced on May 3rd that they will honor Michael Douglas at the opening ceremony of the 2023 Cannes Film Festival on May 16th to recognize his "brilliant career and dedication to cinema."

Michael Douglas (78 years old) is known for a major career encompassing films such as The China Syndrome, Basic Instinct, Falling Down, Behind the Candelabra, Wall Street, Fatal Attraction … All of which have been screened at the Cannes Film Festival.

"Being at Cannes is always a breath of fresh air, a place that has long provided a fantastic platform for bold creators, audacious art, and excellence in storytelling," said Michael Douglas.

"From my first visit to Cannes in 1979 with the film The China Syndrome to the most recent premiere of my film Behind the Candelabra in 2013, the Cannes Film Festival has always reminded me that the magic of cinema lies not only in what we see on screen but also in its ability to impact people all over the world ," the veteran actor added.

He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of a ruthless tycoon in the film Wall Street (1987).

Artists who have received the Honorary Palme d'Or include the late French director Agnes Varda, American actress Jodie Foster, and others.

The 76th Cannes Film Festival will take place from May 16th to May 27th.

Michael Douglas has won two Academy Awards. The first was for his role as a producer on the film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975), winning Best Picture. The second was for Best Actor, for his portrayal of a ruthless tycoon in Wall Street (1987).
