DNVN - Microsoft has begun issuing announcements to encourage users to switch to new computers running Windows 11 and Copilot+, as support for Windows 10 is nearing its end.
Microsoft sent Windows 10 users notifications such as "Do more with your new Windows 11 PC" or "Upgrade to a Copilot+ PC for the ultimate Windows 11 experience." However, clicking on the "More details" link in these notifications led users to a page advertising the new computer.
Notably, the announcements made no mention of the possibility of users continuing to use Windows 10 after October 14, 2025. Individual users can pay $30 for additional updates for one year, while businesses have the option to purchase updates for three years. This suggests that Microsoft is steering users toward purchasing new computers rather than simply paying for extended support.
Encouraging upgrades to new operating systems is nothing new for Microsoft. Previously, the company encouraged Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users to switch to Windows 10. However, this time the announcements focus heavily on purchasing new computers, as many devices currently do not meet the technical requirements of Windows 11, which only supports processors released from 2018 onwards.
The transition to Windows 11 has been relatively slow, with most users still satisfied with Windows 10. Nevertheless, in the PC gaming sector, Windows 11 quickly became the most popular operating system on the Steam platform by summer 2024. However, further user adoption will require more time to verify.
Steam is a platform developed by Valve Corporation, specializing in online game distribution, digital copyright management, multiplayer gaming support, and providing social communication services over the internet. Considered Valve's "game library," Steam is where users can download games after paying with real money.
Despite announcing in 2023 that it would stop releasing major updates for Windows 10, Microsoft continues to add new features to the operating system. Notably, in June 2024, the company reopened the beta testing program for Windows 10.
Copilot is Microsoft's AI virtual assistant, developed based on advanced language models from OpenAI such as ChatGPT. This assistant is capable of creating text content such as emails, poems, essays, search summaries, and even rewriting them in various styles. In addition, Copilot can create images, write code, and perform many other complex tasks.
Copilot+ PC is a new computing concept from Microsoft, encompassing laptops and desktops equipped with powerful hardware that meets the minimum requirements for handling AI tasks. With powerful NPU processors, Copilot+ machines are capable of performing over 40 trillion calculations per second and operate efficiently with high-capacity batteries.
Introduced in May 2024, the Copilot+ PC marks a major leap forward in the personal computing field. The combination of powerful hardware, intelligent software, and AI processing capabilities delivers an unprecedented experience compared to previous computer models.
The Copilot+ PC line boasts many outstanding features such as Recall (reviewing computer operation history), Cocreator (creating and editing AI images in real time directly on the device), Live Captions (translating audio from over 40 languages into English), and many others.
