After two successful years, the Southwest Vietnam Student Football Tournament (TNSV) regional qualifiers have become a focal point of attention for students and have received special interest from universities in the Mekong Delta region. The clearest evidence of this is the doubling of the number of participating teams compared to the first season. Eight teams will compete this season: Tra Vinh University, Can Tho University, Dong Thap University, Tay Do University,FPT University Can Tho, Cuu Long University, Vinh Long University of Technology and Education, and Nam Can Tho University. Among them, Vinh Long University of Technology and Education and Dong Thap University promise to bring a fresh perspective to the tournament with their first participation.
Can Tho Stadium, with a capacity of over 30,000 seats, is ready for the Southwest regional qualifiers of the TNSV THACO Cup 2025.
Compared to other regions, the Southwest regional qualifiers are considered the most challenging, with only one spot available in the finals. In particular, the intense matches will take place at Can Tho Stadium (Cai Khe Ward, Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City), which boasts a national standard grass pitch and four grandstands with over 30,000 seats.
In the Southwest region this season, Vinh Long University of Technology and Education and Dong Thap University, despite being newcomers, have both made very thorough preparations. Vinh Long University of Technology and Education spent hundreds of millions of dong on training, while Dong Thap University even hired a foreign coach. Meanwhile, familiar teams like Tay Do University, Cuu Long University, FPT University Can Tho, and Nam Can Tho University are also eager to participate in the finals.
Specifically for Can Tho University, after losing their spot in the 2024 finals to Tra Vinh University, coach Chau Duc Thanh and his team are certainly determined to reclaim their number one position in the region this year. Therefore, Tra Vinh University's journey to defend their 2024 Western Region championship title will be challenging, given the increased number of participating teams this year, all of whom are well-prepared and have greater ambitions.
In addition to the ready-to-use venues, the Southwest regional qualifiers for the TNSV THACO Cup 2025 received significant support from the Can Tho City Police Department in directing and assigning forces to ensure security and order. This was further enhanced by the support of Can Tho Central General Hospital in providing medical services throughout the tournament.
Mr. Truong Cong Quoc Viet, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, shared: “To date, all preparations are complete for the 15 qualifying matches of the Southwest region, which will take place from January 8th to 17th. The increasing number of registered teams demonstrates the growing appeal of the tournament. The sports sector of Can Tho City is delighted to be partnering with Thanh Nien Newspaper in this meaningful event.”
