On August 17th, at 85 Nhat Chieu Street (Tay Ho District, Hanoi ), the Muong Cultural Space Museum opened a Muong pottery workshop featuring over 100 unique Muong pottery pieces created by artists over the past 10 years.

According to information from the Organizing Committee, in 2007, the Muong Cultural Space Museum was established at 202 Tay Tien Street ( Hoa Binh City, Hoa Binh Province) by artist Vu Duc Hieu with the desire to preserve and introduce the cultural space of the Muong ethnic group in Vietnam.

The pottery workshop is located in the middle of the street, and the works of pottery are arranged in a row (Figure 1).

The museum quickly became a cultural and artistic hub attracting community interest and fostering interaction and creativity among many artists and cultural and artistic organizations both domestically and internationally.

With efforts to honor traditional Muong culture and integrate it with contemporary artistic activities and creations.

In September 2014, the establishment of Muong Studio and the Muong Pottery Workshop created a unique platform for artists from Vietnam and abroad to create works using ceramics.

Through years of research and learning from predecessors, along with numerous visits, experiences, and explorations of traditional pottery regions across the country, Vu Duc Hieu and his colleagues at Muong Studio have created a unique pottery style and spirit that people affectionately call: Muong Pottery.

Using locally sourced materials such as hill soil and termite mound soil, combined with glazes made from ash, dry glazes from tree bark, rice husk ash, and other local materials, Muong pottery offers unique and surprising aesthetic effects.

Ceramics transcend the conventional form of vases and jars, becoming recognized as a distinct and independent material that creates sculptures with expressions not found in other materials.

According to curator and art researcher Vu Huy Thong, Muong pottery has successfully captured the inspiration and love that artist Vu Duc Hieu has poured into his nearly two-decade journey of preserving and promoting Muong culture.

The pottery workshop is located in the middle of the street, and the works of art are displayed in the image (Figure 2).

Muong pottery primarily features a rough surface and comes in shades of brown, yellow, indigo, and green. Achieving these color harmonies is the result of a long process of research and experimentation with traditional glaze mixing formulas using ash (organic glaze) and some common inorganic substances used in modern pottery glazing techniques.

More than 100 Muong pottery pieces are featured at this "Opening the Muong Pottery Workshop" exhibition. These are unique ceramic works by many artists who have participated in creating at Muong Studio for many years, selected to be presented to domestic and international audiences at the brand-new art location: 85 Nhat Chieu, Tay Ho.

The event takes place over two days, August 17th and 18th, and is open all day to welcome the public and tourists interested in and appreciating Muong pottery art.
