Ho Chi Minh City is a melting pot of regional cuisines from all over the country; you can find almost any delicious regional dish from around the world in this city.

I 'm delighted with Saigon 's cuisine .

Whenever she has a business trip to Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Thanh Huong (24 years old, residing in Hanoi ) dedicates a whole day to enjoying coffee and food. For her, it's a time for absolute relaxation, experiencing the vibrant lifestyle of the city's residents.

The cafe Ms. Huong chose is located right on Hai Ba Trung Street, across the street from Tan Dinh Church with its bustling traffic. "What I like most about this place is that they have everything. I can eat Saigon-style broken rice, Quang noodles, Hue-style beef noodle soup, Western-style savory pancakes, or even Chinese dishes from the Cholon area… all kinds of food can be found in upscale restaurants or on the street. The flavors are slightly modified but are very delicious, affordable, and suit my taste," she commented.

Meanwhile, Young-ju (28 years old, from South Korea) also fell in love with Saigon's cuisine because "every dish is delicious and affordable," so she moved to Ho Chi Minh City to work. The girl from the land of kimchi particularly enjoys bun cha, chicken rice, grilled rice paper, stir-fried corn, etc.

Foreign visitors were enthusiastic about the street food stalls at the "Celebrating Vietnamese Culinary Culture" festival last weekend.

Enthralled by Vietnamese cuisine, Young-ju convinced her family from Korea to travel to Ho Chi Minh City for a chance to experience it. She revealed: "When my family came here, I took them to eat banh it, banh xeo, bun cha, pho, and sit down for coffee. My relatives praised it profusely, saying they never expected the food here to be so amazing."

Every time she returns to Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Minh Diem (a Vietnamese woman living in Japan) visits a restaurant located on the top floor of an old apartment building on Pasteur Street (District 1), designed in a warm and simple style.

"The menu at the restaurant features familiar Vietnamese dishes such as banh khot (miniature savory pancakes), grilled spring rolls, and boiled pork platters... all delicious. In a space with a rustic feel, looking out at the city's high-rise buildings, I see a blend of modernity and tradition, yet it feels so familiar," she confided.

Building an attractive culinary destination.

In mid-2023, Ho Chi Minh City had 55 restaurants and eateries featured in the Michelin Guide. This is a positive sign for the tourism industry, helping to increase international awareness of Vietnamese cuisine. From this list, many delicious and distinctive dishes are widely promoted throughout the world, and these establishments are bustling with customers, both domestic and international.

Mr. Peter Cuong Franklin, owner of the Michelin-starred An An restaurant (District 1), believes that with a diverse menu and clean, fresh ingredients, restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City can develop traditional cuisine, combining it with new elements to further enhance the culinary scene.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, not only are there 55 restaurants and eateries on the Michelin list, but Ho Chi Minh City is also in the process of finalizing a set of criteria to evaluate restaurants and eateries from 1 to 5 stars, similar to hotels.

"With criteria closely aligned with international standards, we expect to contribute to encouraging international visitors to explore unique Vietnamese cuisine. Through this, we aim to promote culinary tourism, with the goal of making Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular an attractive destination in the region," Ms. Anh Hoa shared.
