The simple wish of the teachers

TPO - As part of this year's celebration of Vietnamese Teachers' Day on November 20th, teachers shared their stories about the arduous yet glorious career of "nurturing future generations." On Teachers' Day, they have no personal wishes; they only hope that their students can study in the best possible conditions and that there are policies to attract talented individuals to return to the country to work.

Teachers at Lam Son High School for the Gifted: We hope for a mechanism to attract talented students back to the country.

Mr. Nguyen Ba Tu, a teacher at Lam Son Specialized High School in Thanh Hoa, has coached many students to win awards and medals at the Asian Regional and International Olympiads.

The teacher shared that throughout his career, he has taught many generations of students. Witnessing their growth and achievements always fills him with emotion and pride.

The teacher remembers most vividly the year 2024, when three students participated in the Asia- Pacific Physics Olympiad and all three won medals, including one Silver Medal and two Bronze Medals. Also in that year, Ha Duyen Phuc, a student from Lam Son High School for the Gifted, won a Silver Medal at the International Physics Olympiad.

Recalling the exam preparation days, Mr. Tu said that he and his students faced many difficulties and pressures. For him, that pressure was the "vast ocean of knowledge," the challenge of equipping students with everything they needed, and how to make each difficult problem simpler and easier for them.

On the other hand, Physics is an experimental subject, but the school currently lacks the necessary facilities and equipment for students to practice. Mr. Tu suggested that the school contact universities to send students to study in a practical environment, helping them become familiar with the subject and avoid being at a disadvantage compared to international students.

"With Olympic competitions, students face immense pressure from the expectations of their families, schools, and society. As a teacher, I closely monitor and share with them to help them alleviate that pressure and confidently express themselves," Mr. Tu said.

Ha Duy Phuc, currently studying in Singapore, shared her story: before the national team selection for the International Olympiad, she felt extremely stressed and pressured. Afraid of forgetting important knowledge, she couldn't sleep. Late at night, she stayed up reading.

"Teacher Tư came in, invited me to 'go eat snails' and encouraged me to 'just be confident, be yourself.' His short words lifted a burden and relieved the pressure on me," Duyên Phúc shared.

Teacher Tư believes that talented students are good seeds for the future. Therefore, he hopes that the Party and the State will have policies to attract talented students who have studied abroad to return to work in the country, and that teachers will continue to receive more attention.

Ms. Dự graduated from the University of Education in 1997 and has been working as a preschool teacher and school administrator for nearly 30 years.

She recounted that at the age of 35, she was appointed principal of Mai Dich Kindergarten, piloting a high-quality school model. Together with the teachers, she created many play spaces for children, built a music room and functional rooms. She boldly invited experts to train teachers, applied advanced teaching methods, and increased practical and experiential learning hours. After three years, Mai Dich Kindergarten was recognized as a high-quality school.

Upon being transferred to Anh Sao Kindergarten, a public school providing mass education, she had the opportunity to prove herself by developing the school to be on par with high-quality schools. The school planned a rooftop vegetable garden, a wading pool, STEM education, and child-friendly restrooms. The model she implemented at the public school has welcomed over 3,000 delegates from various provinces and cities to visit and learn from her. She has been honored with numerous Certificates of Merit and awards from governing bodies.

Ms. Dự believes that the job of a preschool teacher has many difficulties and hardships, but the teaching staff is always ready to fulfill their duty of caring for and educating children in the best way possible.

In particular, when implementing the 2018 General Education Program, schools must update their knowledge, review the training objectives to cultivate future teachers with the necessary qualities and competencies for innovation; and provide training for core and general teachers to implement the new program.

According to Mr. Son, in the coming time, Hanoi University of Education will work with other teacher training colleges to strengthen the training of teachers to teach subjects in English, aiming to promote English as a second language in schools.

"Currently, the school offers seven teacher training programs taught in English, and we will expand them in the future to increase the number of students enrolled in these programs," Mr. Son said.

On the other hand, the school has also developed training courses for teachers in secondary schools.

"First, we will train preschool teachers to use English in educational activities; and train primary school teachers to teach subjects in English, starting with science subjects," Mr. Son said.
