In previous years, Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20, at Nguyen Van Linh High School was always bustling with fresh flowers, wishes and laughter from students. But this year, November 20 was so quiet it was heartbreaking. The flood suddenly struck, sweeping away the usual peace and leaving teachers with only one worry: the people were hungry and cold in the flood.
Sympathizing with the flood victims and the isolated families, teachers decided to pool money to buy rice, meat, vegetables, etc., then together lit a fire and cooked pots of hot rice to send to the flooded areas.

"I don't think about Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20. I only worry about people still stuck and lacking food. If their house isn't flooded, I have to try harder to help. Thinking about someone's parents huddled on the roof waiting for relief makes me forget all my tiredness," Ms. Kim Tho shared.
From dawn, Thanh Hai’s house became the group’s “relief kitchen”. Some picked vegetables, some washed rice, some divided portions… everything happened quickly, neatly but warmly.
"Students even teased: Today is my day but I don't remember! But honestly, who would think about November 20 when out there our people are struggling in floodwaters. It's strange, two days in the rain and no one is sick," Ms. Hai laughed.

Teachers braved the rain to bring rice to the rescue team to deliver to people in flooded areas.

There are no more meetings or greetings like every year, the group of teachers only has one goal: how to get the bowl of rice to the people as quickly as possible.
"We worked in the kitchen from 6am to 6pm and no one complained about being tired. I'm happy that I can contribute something," said Nguyen Thi Loan.
As for Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu, for the past few days she even forgot about Vietnamese Teachers' Day. In her heart, there is only one thing: "As long as everyone is full and happy, that's all that matters."
