Preserving lifestyle, protecting borders
Mr. Loi's family had gone through a difficult time. His wife worked hard to make cakes to sell every day, while he worked in the fields and did many jobs to support his six children's education. However, the rice fields in the lowlands were often flooded, the crops failed, and life became increasingly precarious. Despite the hardship, he remained sincere and responsible, so the people elected him as a prestigious person in the locality.
Born and raised in Ha Tien, Mr. Loi understands every lifestyle and difficulty of the people. Therefore, whenever there are new policies and regulations, he goes to each household to explain and mobilize. In the area bordering Cambodia, protecting the border and landmarks is always an important task. Mr. Loi closely coordinates with the border guards to propagate to the people to raise their vigilance, not to assist in smuggling and violations of the border area. Ms. Thi Hong, residing in Group 6, My Lo quarter, shared: "Many times Mr. Loi reminded me not to let strangers send things or show the way. If there is anything unusual, I must report it immediately. Through his reminders, the people are more vigilant."
Thanks to his persistent advocacy, My Lo neighborhood has maintained a stable security and order situation for many years. "Mr. Loi is an important bridge between the border guards and the people. Every household he mobilizes strictly complies. Thanks to him, the work of protecting the border and landmarks has become much more convenient," said Senior Lieutenant Le Vinh Phuc - Head of the Mass Mobilization Team of the Ha Tien International Border Gate Border Guard Station.
Pioneering production transformation
Not only active for the community, Mr. Loi is also a bold farmer, daring to innovate to develop the economy . Previously, his family had 2 hectares of rice land but the efficiency was low, the income was unstable. After many visits to models in other places and learning about the characteristics of crops suitable for the soil, he decided to switch to growing lotus for mirrors and flowers. "At first, I was also worried because I was afraid that with little capital, failure would be miserable. But thinking that it was time to innovate, to find a more stable way to do business, I tried planting," Mr. Loi shared.
Lotus is easy to care for and is suitable for sandy loam soil in Ha Tien. Mr. Loi's lotus growing model has developed steadily, bringing in nearly 100 million VND each year, making his family's economy prosperous. Seeing the effectiveness, many households in My Lo neighborhood have come to learn from his experience. Without hiding his profession, Mr. Loi enthusiastically guides them from soil improvement, planting seeds to pest control and harvesting. Up to now, nearly 10 households have followed Mr. Loi's model, bringing in a stable income. "Mr. Loi guides very carefully. One day, when he saw my lotus field was infested with worms, he came over to check and show me how to handle it. Thanks to growing lotus, my family has an additional source of income and is less burdened," said Ms. Lam Bo Pha, a household that has switched to growing lotus.
Along with taking care of the family's economic development, in recent years, Mr. Loi has paid great attention to his children's education. In the past, no matter how poor he was, Mr. Loi never thought of letting his children drop out of school. The sweet fruit came to his family when all 6 children were successful and had stable jobs, 2 worked at the Ward Police, 2 were doctors, 1 was a teacher, 1 was in university. "Mr. Loi is always exemplary, he said what he did. He encouraged people to obey the law, and at the same time pioneered in transforming the economic model, helping many households escape poverty. He is a shining example of the neighborhood," said Mr. Si Phon - Secretary of the My Lo neighborhood Party Cell.
Mr. Chau Van Loi - a simple farmer, a man of respectable prestige has contributed to keeping the border area peaceful, while opening up a new direction for economic development for local people. From green lotus fields to families escaping poverty, from civilized lifestyle to successful children, all are associated with his dedication. When asked what makes him still tirelessly mobilizing and guiding people despite his old age, Mr. Loi smiled and said: "Wherever I live, I have to be responsible for that place. As long as I have the strength, I will contribute to the locality."
