In an updated report as of the afternoon of November 22, the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention said that the flood is causing serious flooding, great damage to people, infrastructure and essential services in many provinces in the Central Central, South Central and Central Highlands regions.

From 7:00 p.m. on November 21 to 4:00 p.m. on November 22, rain in the Central and South Central regions was generally 20-40mm. However, many stations recorded much larger rainfall such as Ea M'Doal ( Dak Lak ) 90mm, Song Hinh (Dak Lak) 90mm, Hoa Son Lake (Khanh Hoa) 56mm, Quang Hien Lake (Gia Lai) 52mm.

It is forecasted that from the evening of November 22 to 24, rain will continue to increase: in Hue City, Da Nang City and the East of Quang Ngai Province, it may reach 60-120mm, locally over 250mm. In the East of Gia Lai, Dak Lak and North of Khanh Hoa, it is forecasted to have rain of 40-80mm, in some places over 150mm.

Floods on many rivers are receding but remain high.

As of 4:00 p.m. on November 22, floods on the Krong Ana, Dinh, and Dong Nai rivers were gradually receding but were still at warning levels.

Water levels recorded at the stations are as follows: Ba River (Dak Lak) at Cung Son: 31.13m, 0.87m below alert level 2; Krong Ana River (Dak Lak) at Giang Son: 425.41m, 1.41m above alert level 3; Srepok River at Ban Don: 177.86m, 3.86m above alert level 3; Dinh River (Khanh Hoa) at Ninh Hoa: 5.55m, 0.15m below alert level 3; Dong Nai River at Ta Lai: 112.66m, 0.16m above alert level 2.

In the next 24 hours, floods are forecast to continue to fall on the Krong Ana, Dong Nai and Dinh rivers; in particular, the Srepok river (at Ban Don) will continue to fluctuate at a high level above alert level 3.

85 people dead and missing, many communes are still deeply flooded

The human loss continues to increase. As of the afternoon of November 22, there were 85 dead and missing people, of which 72 died (Hue 2, Da Nang 2, Gia Lai 5, Dak Lak 44, Khanh Hoa 14, Lam Dong 5) and 13 missing (Quang Tri 1, Da Nang 2, Dak Lak 8, Khanh Hoa 2).

Lam Dong: water has basically receded, people are cleaning up; 127 households are still flooded (Nam Da commune 105 households, Cat Tien 22 households).

Localities count urgent support needs:

As the damage continues to be updated, the urgent need for support from localities shows the severity of the impact of this flood. Gia Lai has to ask for 2,000 tons of rice, 3,000 kg of water treatment chemicals, Cloramine B, 100,000 Aquatabs tablets. Dak Lak needs up to 2,000 tons of food, thousands of medical bags, social security bags, more than 30,000 liters of disinfectants and a large amount of plant and animal seeds to restore production.

Essential infrastructure in many provinces is still under great pressure. More than 1.17 million customers have lost power, and more than 258,450 cases have not been restored, mainly in Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa and Gia Lai. Dedicated networks and public telecommunications networks continue to be disrupted as hundreds of BTS stations are disconnected. Traffic is still not smooth as 13 national highways are flooded or have landslides, and 6 railway sections are closed to traffic.

While heavy rains are still complicated, localities are racing against time to overcome the consequences, ensure safety and gradually restore people's lives.
