Quach Son Dat Bao, born in 2014, is currently in grade 5 at An Thanh 3A Primary School, Cu Lao Dung Commune, Can Tho City. From a very young age, Dat Bao lacked the love of a complete family. His parents divorced when he was not yet one year old. His father left after the divorce and passed away in 2022 due to a serious illness. Dat Bao lived with his grandparents and mother. Not long after, his mother went to work far away, only occasionally sending money back. In 2020, his mother had a new family, gave birth and left Dat Bao to his grandparents to take care of.
Bao’s grandparents are both old. His grandfather, Mr. Son Duc, is in poor health and often has difficulty breathing. No one hires him to do any work, so he can only catch crabs, snails, and fish for food. Occasionally, when he catches a big fish, he sells it to buy rice for the whole family. His grandmother, Mrs. Kien Thi Hong, works by stripping coconut stalks to sell to people to make brooms. Each kilo is only 7,000 VND, and it takes the two of them 2-3 weeks to collect about 10 kilos to sell at the market, just enough to buy rice and some spices. After each class, Dat Bao often helps his grandmother find coconut leaves to strip the stalks.
Dat Bao’s family lives in an old house with a corrugated iron roof, rotten walls and wooden pillars. The house is located deep in the fields, the road is far and difficult to travel, especially when it rains. Every day, Bao has to walk a short distance and then cycle for more than 50 minutes to get to school. Despite this, he still studies hard and dreams of going to university and becoming a teacher to teach children.

Bao is a smart, clever and very understanding boy. Despite his difficult circumstances, old clothes and school bag that have not been replaced for many years, he does not feel inferior or demanding. He thinks that if the clothes are still wearable, then he should keep them, because his grandparents have worked so hard to take care of him. Although he did not grow up in the arms of his parents, Bao still longs for a complete family. When he learned that his father had passed away, he cried a lot.
During the program, Dat Bao tried to hold back his tears because he didn't want to talk about sad things. MC Duong Hong Phuc choked up when he witnessed the strength of the boy who had been deprived of affection from a young age. He hugged Bao, constantly encouraged him, and gave his family 5 million VND from his own pocket for his grandparents to go for a health checkup, partly to cover their living expenses.
Runner-up Che Nguyen Quynh Chau also ran to encourage Dat Bao. The beauty queen burst into tears when she heard the boy express his fear of losing his grandparents in the future. She felt sorry for an 11-year-old boy with many worries, and at the same time admired his will to study. Knowing that Bao had achieved excellent student results last school year, Quynh Chau decided to give him 15 million VND to encourage him.

Singer Ho Phi Nal also could not hold back his tears. He shared: “There is nothing happier than having both parents. I feel lucky to still have both parents. Seeing Bao cry and lacking everything makes me very sad.” The male singer supported Dat Bao with an additional 5 million VND to cover his studies. The artists in the program also tried their best in the challenge to bring valuable rewards to the children.
At the end of the competition, Nguyen Lam Nhut Minh's family came in third place, receiving a prize of 18 million VND. Truong Minh Tien came in second place, receiving 22 million VND. Quach Son Dat Bao's family won first place, overcoming a special challenge and bringing home a total prize of 60 million VND. Thus, the total prize money that Hoa Sen Group gave to families this week was 100 million VND.
In addition to the 15 million VND gift for Dat Bao, runner-up Quynh Chau also gave the other two families 10 million VND each. MC Duong Hong Phuc gave each family 5 million VND. Singer Ho Phi Nal gave Dat Bao 5 million VND and bicycles to Nhut Minh and Minh Tien. It is estimated that the total prize money from the program and the support from artists, donors and local people sent to the children this week is more than 330 million VND.

At the end of the program, runner-up Che Nguyen Quynh Chau emotionally shared: “I have been a fan of Vietnamese Family Home for a long time, always watching the program with my parents when I am at home. My parents also hope that one day I will participate in the program to contribute to supporting children in difficult circumstances. Today, when they knew I came to record, my parents also came here with me.”
She said what touched her most was that the program chose to film in each region instead of in a location convenient for the artists. “The program chose to go to each locality to create conditions for families and get closer to the audience. What touched me even more was that even though it was dark, the audience still stayed until the end, not only to support the program but also to share and give more motivation to those in difficult lives.”
Quynh Chau expressed that the Vietnamese Family Home not only has the meaning of material support but also contains profound educational value. The image of families bringing their children to watch the program, letting the children save money themselves or family representatives going on stage to give gifts to the characters makes her both excited and touched.

“I find this a very meaningful opportunity. When I was young, sometimes my parents' words were difficult for me to understand, but learning through real-life actions will help me remember and empathize faster. I hope I will have more opportunities to accompany the program, and maybe one day, I will bring my own family to help support those in difficult circumstances ,” the beauty queen expressed.
The program Vietnamese Family Home is broadcast at 7:30 p.m. every Friday on HTV7 channel. The program is produced by Bee Media Company in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City Radio and Television Station , with the support of Hoa Sen Home Construction Materials & Interior Supermarket System (Hoa Sen Group) and Hoa Sen Plastic Pipe - Source of Happiness.
