Hanoi plans to postpone the 10th grade entrance exam in 2026

(Dan Tri) - Accordingly, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training plans to propose to the City People's Committee to postpone the 10th grade exam schedule to the end of June 2026, instead of the beginning of June as in previous years.

According to a representative of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, this adjustment is to conform to the 2026-2027 school year schedule framework issued by the Ministry of Education and Training ; creating conditions for 9th grade students to have more time to review.

Specifically, according to the 2025-2026 school year plan issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, the 2026 high school graduation exam is expected to take place on June 11-12, 2026, 2 weeks earlier than in 2025.

Thus, Hanoi needs to adjust the time to organize the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2026-2027 school year to match the school year schedule framework issued by the Ministry of Education and Training.

Thus, the 10th grade entrance exam in 2026 is expected to take place after the high school graduation exam.

This Department will research and calculate more carefully and in detail to advise the City People's Committee to issue a specific, suitable and convenient plan for students.

Hanoi’s plan to adjust next year’s exam schedule to the end of June has parents worried. Many schools also believe that extending the review time will make students stressed and tired.

According to the leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training, the purpose of organizing the high school graduation exam early is to reduce pressure on students and reduce costs for parents.

However, many parents believe that all students need to be relieved of the same pressure. Parents of 9th grade students also need to be freed from the anxiety and waiting as well as the financial burden of exam preparation.

Ideally, the 10th grade exam schedule is pushed up to late May or early June.

The 2026 grade 10 exam is the first high school entrance exam after the reorganization of provinces and cities. Instead of 63 provinces, this year there will be only 34 provinces. The new provinces that reorganize 2-3 old provinces will have to adjust the new exam schedule throughout the locality.

In 2025, Bac Lieu will be the first province to organize the 10th grade exam, scheduled for May 22-24.

Provinces holding 10th grade exams in 2025 in May include Lai Chau, Binh Duong (May 28-31), Dien Bien (May 28-29), Dong Nai (May 29-30) and Quang Tri (May 30-31).

The only province that has the 10th grade exam in July is Vinh Long. However, this is the entrance exam for Nguyen Binh Khiem High School for the Gifted. Non-specialized high schools in the area organize the admission.

The remaining provinces and cities will hold the 10th grade exam in June. The exam schedule is focused on the first week of the month.

Also in 2025, Hanoi will be the locality that finishes the 10th grade exam the latest, starting from June 7 and ending on June 9 (the day for students taking specialized exams).
