Deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Korea

(Dan Tri) - General Secretary To Lam suggested that Vietnam and South Korea realize the implementation of science and technology cooperation, innovation and digital transformation as a new pillar in bilateral relations.

On the afternoon of November 21, at a meeting with Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Woo Won Shik, General Secretary To Lam said that the two countries have very favorable conditions to shape a new strategic vision for cooperation and create opportunities for mutual development.

Raising bilateral trade turnover to 150 billion USD by 2030

The General Secretary hopes that the two countries will continue to be close friends and reliable partners on the journey to realizing their development goals and aspirations.

The General Secretary suggested that the two sides continue to expand cooperation and regularly exchange delegations via Party, State, Government and National Assembly channels, creating a basis for expanding comprehensive cooperation in all fields.

At the same time, promptly share opinions on the cooperative relationship between the two countries as well as on the regional and international situation, thereby deepening the Vietnam - Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The General Secretary suggested that Korea continue to enhance the capacity of Vietnamese enterprises to participate more deeply in the global supply chain of Korean enterprises, thereby contributing to the goal of increasing bilateral trade turnover to 150 billion USD by 2030 in a balanced and sustainable manner.

The General Secretary suggested that both sides realize the implementation of science and technology cooperation, innovation and digital transformation as new pillars in bilateral relations.

At the same time, strengthen cooperation in human resource training and research and development of strategic technology industries and strategic technology products, and promote cooperation, build core infrastructure such as artificial intelligence (AI), next-generation networks and data centers, and build legal and institutional frameworks to jointly enter the digital age of AI.

At the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Woo Won Shik suggested that the two sides continue to cooperate closely to promote substantive development of defense cooperation; and closely cooperate in preventing transnational crimes, especially high-tech crimes and online fraud in the region.

National Assembly Chairman Woo Won Shik proposed that Vietnam create conditions for Korean enterprises to invest in key projects in Vietnam, thereby contributing to Vietnam's socio-economic development in the coming time.

National Assembly Chairman Woo Won Shik highly agreed with General Secretary To Lam's opinions, and emphasized that Korea always attaches importance to the comprehensive strategic partnership with Vietnam in implementing foreign policy in the region.

Strengthening cooperation in many fields

On the same afternoon, at a meeting with the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, President Luong Cuong assessed the visit as having important significance, adding new momentum to promote the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries to develop more substantially and effectively in the coming time.

The two leaders expressed their delight at the important achievements of the two countries in many fields since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992.

The two leaders agreed to continue strengthening political trust to create a solid foundation to promote other areas of cooperation between the two countries, while continuing to concretize commitments and agreements reached during recent visits by high-ranking leaders of the two countries.

The President said that the potential and strengths for cooperation between the two countries are enormous, and the two sides need to continue to strengthen political trust and increase exchanges of high-level delegations, ministries, localities, and businesses of the two countries.

At the same time, promoting defense and security cooperation, preventing transnational crimes; enhancing educational and cultural cooperation and people-to-people exchanges to create deeper connections and understanding between the people of the two countries, according to the President.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea expressed his high agreement with the proposals of President Luong Cuong, and hoped that Vietnam would continue to support and remove difficulties for Korean enterprises and create favorable conditions for the Korean business community to feel secure in investing long-term in Vietnam.

The Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea said that he will coordinate with the Vietnamese legislative body to support the two governments to promote bilateral cooperation in various fields, in accordance with the interests of the two peoples.
