34 valedictorians in the 2025 Hanoi Excellent Student Exam

The Hanoi Department of Education and Training has just announced the results of the city's excellent student exam in cultural subjects for grade 12 high school students in the 2025-2026 school year. Accordingly, there are 34 candidates who are valedictorians in 13 subjects.

This year, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training organized an exam to select excellent students of the city and select teams to compete in the national level in cultural subjects of grade 12 high school according to 2 groups. Each subject has groups A and B, respectively for non-specialized and specialized students. In each group, the exam questions and scoring methods are different.

In the end, a total of 2,839 students won prizes, including 142 first prizes, 596 second prizes, 807 third prizes and 1,294 consolation prizes.

According to statistics from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, there are a total of 34 valedictorians, of which group A has 14 valedictorians and group B has 20 valedictorians.

A representative of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training said that among the 142 first prizes this year, there are 3 10th grade students, including: Ho Nhat Hao (class 10A2 of Quoc Oai High School; first prize in Information Technology, group A); Nguyen Dieu Ha (class 10G0 of Newton Secondary and High School; first prize in English, group A) and Bui Nhat Mai (class 10S02 of Newton Secondary and High School; first prize in History, group A). ​​All 3 students are in group A.

This year, according to regulations, the 20 candidates with the highest results in the city's excellent student exam will join the national excellent student exam team for each subject, without taking the Encouragement Prize to the team to ensure quality. Thus, Hanoi will have 247 candidates participating in the national excellent student exam for the 2025-2026 school year, 2 subjects do not have enough 20 students/team: Russian (19 students) and Japanese (8 students). Of which, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted has the largest number of students participating in the national excellent student exam this year with 140 students; followed by Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted (49 students) and Chu Van An High School (36 students).

Among them, 10th graders entered the Hanoi team to compete in the national excellent student selection exam, including: Nguyen Dang Khanh (10G0 class of Newton Secondary and High School; Math); Vu Quang Dung (10th grade Math 1 class of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted; Math); Pham Hong Luong (10th grade Japanese class of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted; Japanese).

The Hanoi High School Excellence Competition took place at the end of September, the largest in the country. This year, for the first time, the city organized the competition in two groups A and B, to encourage and motivate students from non-specialized high schools, as well as to ensure fairness in testing and evaluation. Therefore, the number of candidates increased by about 500 compared to last year. The winning group also increased by about 200 students. However, the selection of the national excellent student competition team will be considered with group B candidates.

According to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training , Hanoi is allowed to send a maximum of 20 students per team to participate in this exam.
