Farmers harvesting cold-climate coffee in Mang Den.
Thanks to support from the Cold Climate Coffee Development Project, many ethnic minority households have achieved a stable source of income. Some households have even adopted organic farming methods, harvesting a high percentage of ripe berries, resulting in a product value superior to traditional methods. In Mang Den commune, cold climate coffee not only contributes to poverty reduction but is also being positioned as a distinctive local product, opening up opportunities to increase income and improve the lives of the people.
In 2014, many communes in the western part of the province implemented a project to support the development of cold-climate coffee cultivation for poor households. However, due to insufficient investment and care, the quality and yield of the coffee in the initial stages did not meet expectations. In recent years, recognizing the economic value of this crop, many ethnic minority households have boldly participated in restoration and development projects and invested in expanding the area of cold-climate coffee cultivation.

Coffee plants thrive in cold climates.
Mang Ri commune currently has over 2,000 hectares of cold-climate coffee and is the fastest-growing area in the western region. After medicinal plants, cold-climate coffee provides a stable source of income and high economic efficiency. Thanks to support programs, people have received technical training, guidance on intensive cultivation, and have proactively sown tens of thousands of seedlings, gradually forming a cold-climate coffee raw material area in the locality.
From small initial plots to hundreds of hectares of expanded cultivation, cold-climate coffee has affirmed its role as a key crop in the poverty reduction strategy in the communes of the Eastern Truong Son Mountains. Cold-climate coffee has superior economic value compared to traditional coffee. With a planting density of about 5,000 trees/hectare and a yield of only 2-3 kg of ripe red beans per tree, people can generate significant income, contributing to poverty reduction and building sustainable livelihoods.
