Thanks to the support from the Cold-climate Coffee Development Project, many ethnic minority households have had a stable source of income. Some households also apply organic farming, harvesting a high percentage of ripe fruit, helping the product value surpass the traditional method. In Mang Den commune, cold-climate coffee not only contributes to poverty reduction, but is also oriented to become a typical local product, opening up opportunities to increase income and improve the lives of people.
In 2014, many communes in the West of the province implemented a project to support the development of cold-climate coffee trees for poor households. However, due to lack of proper investment and care, the quality and productivity of coffee in the early stages did not meet expectations. In recent years, realizing the economic value of this tree, many ethnic minority households have boldly participated in projects to restore, develop and invest in expanding the area of cold-climate coffee.

Mang Ri commune currently has more than 2,000 hectares of cold-climate coffee and is the fastest expanding locality in the Western region. After medicinal plants, cold-climate coffee brings a stable source of income and high economic efficiency. Thanks to support programs, people are trained in techniques, guided on intensive cultivation and proactively sow and grow tens of thousands of seedlings, gradually forming a local cold-climate coffee material area.
From the initial small areas to hundreds of hectares expanded, cold-climate coffee has affirmed its role as a key crop in the poverty reduction strategy in the communes of the Eastern Truong Son region. Cold-climate coffee has a superior economic value compared to traditional coffee. With a planting density of about 5,000 trees/ha and a yield of only 2-3kg of ripe red coffee/tree, people can generate a significant source of income, contributing to poverty reduction and building sustainable livelihoods.
