Many universities are awarding hundreds of millions of VND in bonuses to newly appointed professors and associate professors.

Many universities across the country have implemented a policy of awarding "bonus" bonuses ranging from tens to hundreds of millions of VND to faculty and staff who meet the standards for professor and associate professor titles.

The University of Finance and Marketing recently held a conference to announce the appointment of seven faculty members as associate professors in economics for the year 2025. On this occasion, the university awarded each newly appointed associate professor 300 million VND.

According to Associate Professor Pham Tien Dat, Rector of the University of Finance and Marketing, the university is implementing a policy to encourage faculty and staff to be appointed to the title of professor with a bonus of 500 million VND and associate professor with 300 million VND, with funding drawn from the university's revenue.

"This is seen as a way to encourage the development of a high-quality academic team, implemented with the expectation that professors and associate professors will continue to play a core role in training, scientific research, mentoring young lecturers, and contributing to the sustainable development of the university," Mr. Dat shared.

In 2025, the university recorded 19 full-time faculty members completing their doctoral programs, many of whom defended their dissertations ahead of schedule, a number considered a record for the university.

Many other higher education institutions also have noteworthy incentive policies.

Dong Thap University awarded 500 million VND to Associate Professor Huynh Vinh Phuc, Vice Rector of the Teacher Training College, who met the criteria for professor in 2025; and also awarded 250 million VND to Dr. Le Diem Kieu, Head of the postgraduate program in environmental science, who met the criteria for associate professor this year.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry also recently awarded bonuses to 14 faculty members appointed to the positions of professor and associate professor in 2025, with professors receiving 200 million VND and associate professors receiving 100 million VND each.

At the University of Economics and Law (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City), the support policy is applied at several levels: PhD students receive 70-150 million VND depending on the completion deadline; newly appointed associate professors receive 150 million VND and newly appointed professors receive 250 million VND.

Meanwhile, Nha Trang University applies a lower bonus level, with 50 million VND for professors and 30 million VND for associate professors. In addition to the bonus, qualified staff and lecturers are also considered for salary increases and receive additional income as regulated.

Representatives from the universities stated that the policy of rewarding lecturers who achieve the titles of professor and associate professor aims to create motivation for the development of a high-quality teaching staff, contributing to improving the quality of training and scientific research in higher education institutions.
