On the afternoon of December 13th, a press conference was held at Chonburi Stadium ahead of the SEA Games 33 women's football semi-final match between Vietnam and Indonesia.
Beginning his response, coach Mai Duc Chung expressed great respect for the opponent's remarkable progress. He noted that the current Indonesian team is vastly different from the team that suffered a heavy defeat against Vietnam in the Asian Cup qualifiers previously.
"I know the Indonesian team has naturalized six players. In the starting eleven, making six substitutions makes Indonesia very different from the team that played in the Asian Cup. We were aware of this and had prepared accordingly," the 74-year-old coach said.
Facing a team with many naturalized players who possess a physical advantage, coach Mai Duc Chung affirmed that the Vietnamese women's team will use softness to overcome hardness. The Vietnamese team will employ technical skill and agility to neutralize their opponents.
“Given the physique of Vietnamese women, we will focus on coordination. The coaching staff has a strategy to compete against taller and stronger athletes. It's similar to the approach we used when playing against the Philippines. We will play aggressively and bring out the best qualities of Vietnamese women,” he shared.
On behalf of the entire team, coach Mai Duc Chung also made a promise to the fans at home: "Despite facing an opponent that has improved rapidly and added many naturalized players, the Vietnamese women's national team will play their best to achieve the best possible result, in return for the support of the audience."
The semi-final match between the Vietnamese and Indonesian women's teams will take place at 4 PM on December 14th.
