Following a scientific research process, on December 8, 2025, the Vietnam Association for Nature and Environment Protection (VACNE) issued a decision recognizing the cluster of 12 Shan Tuyet tea trees in Dong Phuc commune as Vietnamese Heritage Trees.
These trees belong to the households of Ly Van Tinh, Dang Van Chuong (Phieng Phung village) and Mung Van Thoi (Na Bay village), Trieu Van Dung (Ban Chang village).
According to Trieu Quang Hung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Phuc commune, this recognition contributes to affirming the ecological, landscape, and heritage value of the Shan Tuyet tea variety in the locality. It also creates a legal basis for the conservation, care, development, and promotion of this heritage.
In the Bang Phuc area of Dong Phuc commune, all seven villages cultivate and process Shan Tuyet tea due to their high altitude, cool climate, and high humidity, which are ideal for the growth and development of Shan Tuyet tea plants.
Scientific investigations have shown that the Shan Tuyet tea plant population in the Bang Phuc area possesses outstanding biological, historical, cultural, and tourism-related economic development potential.

This area currently has over 316 hectares of Shan Tuyet tea plantations in production. According to the Northern Mountainous Region Institute of Agricultural and Forestry Science and Technology, there are currently 740 ancient Shan Tuyet tea trees in the area. The largest number is in Phieng Phung village, with over 400 trees.
The tea plants are on average over 5 meters tall, with a trunk diameter of over 19 cm. Many have beautiful shapes and wide canopies, creating a unique landscape.
The results indicate that the average age of the ancient tea trees is approximately 97 years, with many over 100 years old, and the youngest being 65 years old. These figures affirm the value of this long-standing heritage, demonstrating the close relationship between tea trees and the local community across generations.
Based on the recognition of the tea plant cluster as a Vietnamese Heritage Tree, in the coming time, Dong Phuc commune will continue to preserve the tea cluster in a scientific and sustainable manner; develop organic raw material areas, and enhance the brand of Shan Tuyet tea.
At the same time, the locality is developing an eco-tourism model based on the heritage of tea plants; building an ecosystem of products and services around the heritage tea plants. The commune is also enhancing community capacity and developing the economy in conjunction with conservation.
Dong Phuc aims to make this area a distinctive Shan Tuyet tea destination for tourism in Thai Nguyen and the Viet Bac region by 2030.
At the ceremony, the government, businesses, cooperatives, and scientific units also signed memoranda of understanding on the management, protection, preservation, promotion of the value, and guaranteed purchase of Shan Tuyet tea products.
