The Generation of Miracles tells the story of young people, their entrepreneurial aspirations, and the "miracles" that transform their lives. Upon its release, director Hoang Nam's film received many negative reviews regarding its script, storytelling, cast, and message...
The most criticized aspect lies in the disjointed and unconvincing script. The film builds the protagonist's journey using a familiar motif – overcoming adversity to achieve success – but the development unfolds too easily and illogically. The character can rise from nothing into the world of technology, start a business, and achieve "miracles" with just a few rapid transformations, lacking sufficient psychological depth. Plot points that should have been explored in detail are glossed over, making the story superficial and difficult to empathize with.

The Generation of Miracles conveys many humanistic messages about young people and the grandmother-grandchild relationship.

Furthermore, the film constantly shifts in rhythm, atmosphere, and direction but lacks seamless connection. Many plot points appear disjointed, playing no clear role in the overall narrative, causing the film's flow to be fragmented. For many viewers, The Generation of Miracles feels more like a series of fragmented pieces than a tightly structured story.
The cast and acting continue to be a point of contention. The inclusion of both young and veteran actors, KOLs, and YouTubers was expected to create a sense of familiarity with younger audiences, but it was criticized for inconsistent acting, with many characters delivering stiff lines, limited expressions, and a lack of emotional depth. As a result, the relationships within the film lacked cohesion.

The director hopes for a 'miracle' to happen if the film is viewed more objectively.

However, many argue that The Generation of Miracles also has many noteworthy aspects, particularly its inspiring subject matter centered around young people, their aspirations for success, and family values in a rapidly changing social context. The character Tiến represents a generation of young people who are simultaneously earning a living and pursuing knowledge, constantly striving despite facing numerous challenges.
The film's emotional highlight lies in its simple, humane story of a grandmother and grandchild. The image of a hardworking grandmother who loves her grandchild unconditionally, and the grandchild's constant efforts to live a good life so that the grandmother can rest easy, resonates deeply with the audience. The performance of People's Artist Thanh Hoa as the grandmother is particularly endearing. In her debut film role, the actress leaves a lasting impression with her natural and sincere acting.
The recurring use of Hanoi as the setting throughout the film is also a plus, providing beautiful, everyday scenes that contribute to the film's unique atmosphere.
According to the latest figures from Box Office Vietnam, "The Generation of Miracles" is currently grossing less than 500 million VND. Regarding the mixed reviews of his second film, director Hoang Nam shared with Thanh Nien newspaper : "It's normal for a film to receive both praise and criticism because it depends on each individual's perception. However, opinions that the film is a disaster, the content is bland, the actors are bad… are not constructive criticism and affect the morale not only of me but also of the entire crew and other viewers. They will be misled by such negative information. There are many ways to evaluate a film, but if people choose to give constructive feedback, it will be more humane."
Regarding the less-than-favorable box office performance, the director of "The Ghost Lamp" stated that there are many reasons to judge whether a film is a success or a failure. "For me, when making this film, I didn't focus too much on box office revenue because, from the title and content, I realized I wasn't targeting my strength or forte, which is horror films, but rather focusing on family themes, experiences, and memories of my grandmother with a gentle story that inspires positive feelings in everyone. At this point, I don't know if many viewers have encountered the film's content yet, but the crew has had several cinetours and received many positive responses. Although the film has some shortcomings, the message I wanted to convey has been successfully delivered. I always welcome objective feedback from experts and audiences," director Hoang Nam said.
Speaking further about the choice of subject matter, the director of "The Ghost Lamp" said that when you want to do something new, you have to accept the risks. "Actually, at this point, there are many more blockbuster films being released or about to be released at the end of the year. With a film, after 3 to 5 days of release, you can predict the results, so I feel that with the current revenue situation, the film is not guaranteed to be commercially successful. But I still hope for a 'miracle' to happen if the film is viewed more objectively. And I have also learned many lessons and gained experience… from this product," director Hoang Nam added.
