Earlier on the morning of December 8th, the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem Ward (Hanoi) proceeded to disburse compensation, support, resettlement, and land clearance funds to residents eligible for the investment project to build a square and park east of Hoan Kiem Lake.
On December 10th, the ward continued to disburse compensation and resettlement assistance to households that had to relocate to make way for the square and park project in the TOD area east of Hoan Kiem Lake.
The land acquisition project in this area involves 47 land users, including 12 organizations and 35 households. To date, the competent authority has approved compensation, support, and resettlement plans for 25 households.
A resident living in alley 61 Dinh Tien Hoang shared that their family owns approximately 50m² of land and house subject to expropriation, and they received over 17 billion VND in compensation and resettlement support.
The project for the square east of Hoan Kiem Lake is divided into two phases.
According to the Hoan Kiem Ward People's Committee, the square and park east of Hoan Kiem Lake, with a total area of approximately 2.14 hectares, is currently being studied for development planning according to the Transport-Oriented Development (TOD) model.
The land plot is bordered to the west by Hoan Kiem Lake and Dinh Tien Hoang Street; to the north by an existing residential area; to the east by Ly Thai To Street; and to the south by Tran Nguyen Han Street.
A new square will be created on the east side of Hoan Kiem Lake, incorporating green spaces to serve as a community hub for artistic activities, exhibitions, and cultural events.
The project promises to contribute to improving the spiritual life of the capital's residents.
The project planning area has 59 landowners, including 17 organizations and 42 households.
The project is divided into two phases. Phase 1 focuses on compensation, support, and resettlement on an area of approximately 21,151 m² to develop a transport-oriented urban area (TOD).
The square will be designed in a coordinated manner with a system of trees, lawns, paving stones, parking lots, and technical infrastructure such as lighting, water supply and drainage, WiFi, and security cameras. Some existing buildings will be retained or studied for preservation, including the building of the Department of Culture and Sports , the Institute of Literature, and the Art Deco architectural works of Hoan Kiem Power Company.
Phase 2 will involve the development of an underground space comprising approximately 3 basement levels, directly connected to station C9 of metro line 2 (Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao), while also ensuring technical solutions to preserve valuable architectural structures in the area.
Phase 2 will continue to be studied, with input from experts and management agencies, to ensure it aligns with Hanoi's planning and development orientation.
