Quan Lan Island in Quang Ninh province is located in Bai Tu Long Bay, about 40km from the center of Van Don (now Van Don Special Economic Zone). The island has a total area of over 10km², stretching from the foot of Van Don mountain to Got mountain, with majestic mountain ranges of varying sizes rising high into the sky.

Quan Lan Island is also known as one of the outstanding tourist destinations in Quang Ninh province. With a modest area of about 11km², the island boasts many long beaches with fine white sand and clear blue water. Thanks to its location nestled in a bay, the sea is calm, and the journey to the island is almost entirely free of rough waves, making it ideal for families with young children, the elderly, or those prone to seasickness.

From July to September, visitors can still enjoy the beauty of the islands, but it's important to monitor weather forecasts to avoid storms or tropical depressions. In autumn (October – November), the scenery on the islands remains romantic, but the air becomes colder and there is more rain.

Quan Lan Island is narrow in width and not very large, but it is quite long, so it boasts many beautiful beaches.
Quan Lan Beach is the closest beach to the port and market. Quan Lan Beach is less crowded than Minh Chau Beach, the sand is white but not as white as other beaches, the sea water is clear blue, and the waves are moderate.
Minh Chau Beach boasts the finest white sand, making it always crowded with visitors. To get a great photo on a less crowded beach, simply walk about 1 km further towards Trui Minh Chau harbor. There you'll find a pristine swimming area with very few swimmers.
The beach is very gently sloping, has a firm seabed, and is the clearest of all the beaches here. However, due to its location facing the wind, Minh Chau sometimes becomes an 'unintentional dumping ground' for marine waste.

Viet My Beach, near the pier, was originally an abandoned project, so locals rent it seasonally for business. It's the only place with restaurants facing the sea, offering beautiful views, reasonable prices, and many establishments with karaoke. The coastline is long, the sand isn't as fine as in Minh Chau, but the beach slopes gently.
Son Hao beach is located between Quan Lan beach and Minh Chau beach. The most striking feature of Son Hao beach is that the beach area narrows when the tide is at its highest.
Robinson Beach is located between Son Hao and Minh Chau beaches, but closer to Minh Chau. It has only one beachfront guesthouse and no other services, truly a deserted island experience. The road leading to it is narrow, bumpy, and unmarked, so it took me a while to find it. But this beach is the most beautiful, with a charming guesthouse nestled amidst a pine forest.

To reach Quan Lan Island, tourists will have to travel in two stages:
Stage 1: Arrival in Quang Ninh
Tourists from the South or Central regions will take a flight to Hanoi or Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, and then travel by road to Hon Gai pier, Ha Long city, or Cai Rong port, Van Don district.
If you don't drive your own car or motorbike from Hanoi, you can take a limousine or coach to Ha Long or Cua Ong/Cam Pha from My Dinh or Giap Bat bus stations. The price is around 150,000 to 200,000 VND per trip. The journey takes nearly 4 hours.
Departing from Hai Phong, the travel time is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Limousine fares are around 150,000 VND per trip, while regular buses cost around 120,000 VND per trip.
Stage 2: From the port to the island by boat
The speedboat journey takes approximately 45 minutes. Tourists often choose to depart from Cai Rong port to shorten travel time at sea. Note that when booking your accommodation, you can ask the hotel to assist with speedboat ticket bookings and port transfers for your convenience.
