One school has up to 3 students winning international Olympic Gold Medals in 2024

3 students participating in the international competition all won Gold Medals

This is the first time in a school year that Bac Giang High School for the Gifted has 3 students winning 3 Gold Medals at international Olympic competitions. This is also the best achievement that students of Bac Giang High School for the Gifted achieved at this intellectual playground and in the school's history.

Specifically, at the 2024 International Physics Olympiad, Vietnam had two students win Gold Medals, both of whom are students of Bac Giang High School for the Gifted (including Than The Cong and Truong Phi Hung, same grade 2 Physics major), contributing to helping the Vietnamese delegation be in the group of countries with the highest results at the exam.

At the 2024 International Chemistry Olympiad, Bac Giang High School for the Gifted had 1 student (Giap Vu Son Ha, grade 12 majoring in Chemistry) among the 3 students who won the Gold Medal, contributing to helping the Vietnamese team. ranked 2nd out of 89 participating countries and territories (ranked second with the American delegation and only behind the Chinese delegation). 

Share with VietNamNet, Mr. Tran Duy Phuong, Principal of Bac Giang High School for the Gifted, said that not only he personally but also the school community in particular and the education sector of Bac Giang province in general are very happy to continuously receive the results of students. “When we received news that the Vietnamese team participating in the International Physics Olympiad won 2 Gold Medals and both were students of the school, we were very surprised. The school always has faith and expectations in the students but does not think they will achieve such excellent results.

For the school, 2 Gold Medals in one year is a miracle. But not long after, we continued to receive information that Son Ha had won another Gold Medal at the International Chemistry Olympiad, our joy was truly indescribable, bursting at many levels. emotions," Mr. Phuong said.

According to Mr. Phuong, this is also the best result in the school's history of more than 30 years of construction and development in the international arena.

“There were times when the school had students participating in international exams. In particular, in 2018 and 2019, the school had student Trinh Duy Hieu participate in the international Olympic competition for 2 consecutive years but the highest result was only a Silver Medal. This year, the school's students won 3 international Olympic Gold Medals at the same time, of which 2 medals were in Physics, 1 was in Chemistry," Mr. Phuong shared.

Not only in the international Olympic arena, these 3 students also brought other achievements to Bac Giang High School for the Gifted. 

Than The Cong won the first prize in the national excellent student competition in Physics for 3 consecutive years (grades 10, 11, 12). This male student also won medals at the Asian Physics Olympiad two years in a row, including the 2024 Asian Physics Olympiad Gold Medal and the 2023 Asian Physics Olympiad Bronze Medal. 

Truong Phi Hung also previously won a Bronze Medal at the 2024 Asian Physics Olympiad.

Giap Vu Son Ha also won the Silver Medal at the Abu Reikhan Beruniy International Chemistry Olympiad in 2023. 

With this result, 3 students from Bac Giang High School for the Gifted were also admitted directly to domestic universities. 

The principal said that this result comes from the hard work and concentration of the school's teachers and students over the past time.

Bac Giang High School for the Gifted, formerly known as Ha Bac High School for the Gifted, was established in 1991. With 3 Gold Medals from Than The Cong, Truong Phi Hung, Giap Vu Son Ha in 2024, up to now, students The school has won 8 international Olympic medals in all subjects (including 3 Gold Medals, 4 Silver Medals and 1 Bronze Medal).
