Mount has angered Chelsea fans. |
Introduced from the bench by manager Michael Carrick, Mount quickly became the center of attention. Every time the English midfielder touched the ball, he was met with boos from his former club's fans.
However, when the match ended with a 1-0 victory for MU, Mount responded with a veiled gesture, turning towards the stands and making a "silence" sign to the Chelsea fans. This action further fueled the conflict between the midfielder and his former club.
This isn't the first time Mount has drawn attention when facing Chelsea. In their previous encounter in the first leg of this season, the English midfielder was involved in clashes with several Chelsea players such as Moises Caicedo, Estevao, and Enzo Fernandez after a tackle.
In April 2024, during Chelsea's dramatic 4-3 victory over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, Mount and Fernandez also clashed. At that time, Fernandez celebrated provocatively right in front of Mount after Cole Palmer's winning goal.
After manager Ruben Amorim left MU, Mount was no longer used regularly. He is facing the risk of being sold in the summer of 2026 as the "Red Devils" plan a major overhaul of their midfield.
Manchester United reportedly spent £60 million to sign Mount in the summer of 2023, but the midfielder has yet to live up to expectations.
