Mourinho is desperate for a job - VnExpress Sports

VnExpressVnExpress24/03/2024

Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho has declared his readiness to manage any team upon his return to work this summer.

On March 24th, when asked if he had found a new job, Mourinho replied: "No, not yet. I don't have a club yet and I'm still a free agent. But I want to return to work this summer."

Before achieving fame in England and Italy, Mourinho managed three Portuguese clubs: Benfica, Uniao De Leiria, and FC Porto. He has not ruled out the possibility of returning to Portugal to work.

"Never say no, especially in football," Mourinho added. "My life is football. I can coach anywhere, without any problem."

Mourinho has been unemployed since being sacked by Roma on January 16th. Roma's drop to ninth place in Serie A was the reason for his dismissal. After replacing Mourinho with former captain Daniele De Rossi, the Olimpico-based team lost only two of their last 13 matches, rose to fifth place in Serie A, and reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

At the beginning of the 2023-2024 season, Mourinho shared that he had rejected an attractive offer to stay at Roma. According to Portuguese media, this offer may have come from Al Nassr - the Saudi Arabian club that owns Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Marcelo Brozovic, and Aymetic Laporte.

Mourinho rose to prominence after leading FC Porto to victory in the 2004 Champions League, UEFA Cup, and two Portuguese league titles. He then went on to win three Premier League titles with Chelsea, one Champions League, a treble, two Serie A titles with Inter, La Liga with Real Madrid, the Europa League with Manchester United, and the Conference League with Roma. Mourinho is the only manager to have won all three of UEFA's current titles: the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League.

However, in recent years, Mourinho has been criticized as outdated and no longer suitable for big clubs. Manchester United at the end of 2018 was the most recent big club for the "Special One".

Mourinho has never managed a national team. If coach Roberto Martinez leaves the Portuguese national team after Euro 2024, the 61-year-old could have the opportunity to contribute to his homeland.
