MU signs a bargain goalkeeper to replace Andre Onana.

Manchester United are ready to spend £6 million to bring in goalkeeper John Victor from Botafogo, as a replacement for the injured Andre Onana.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper recently suffered a hamstring injury and is expected to be sidelined for two months.

Onana's absence at the start of the season caused a headache for coach Ruben Amorim, as he did not trust his second-choice goalkeeper, Altay Bayindir.

In that context, Manchester United contacted Botafogo about the transfer of 29-year-old goalkeeper John Victor, who had just impressed at the FIFA Club World Cup.

John Victor has a release clause of only £6 million. Therefore, Botafogo cannot prevent him from leaving if Manchester United pays the aforementioned amount.

In the latest development, Botafogo has quickly identified Matheus Mendes of Atletico Mineiro as a replacement for John Victor should he agree to join Manchester United.

Victor's price is considered cheap on the market for a quality goalkeeper. In the past, he mainly played in the Brazilian league, having spent a season with Real Valladolid but couldn't stay there.

According to The Athletic, John Victor could compete on equal footing with Andre Onana for the Red Devils' goalkeeping position thanks to his good reflexes and impressive passing ability from midfield.

Given that MU is having to tighten its belt due to PSR regulations, John Victor is seen as a suitable solution to address the goalkeeping problem.
