Frank Ilett will have to wait for MU to start a new winning streak. |
Frank Ilett's beloved team was held to a 2-2 draw by Nottingham Forest in the 10th round of the Premier League on the night of November 1st, ending his hopes of completing the "vow of 5 consecutive wins" that he set more than a year ago.
It all started last October, when MU had a difficult start to the season. Ilett came up with the idea of only getting a haircut when the team won five consecutive games – as a way to boost morale during a gloomy period. Unexpectedly, that joke became a phenomenon. After almost 12 months, his curly hair has attracted attention among the "Red Devils" fan community.
"It's been a crazy journey. I didn't think my hair – or my follower count – could ever get this big," Ilett shared on BBC Radio Manchester.
For almost a year, MU has repeatedly helped him almost get a haircut. Most recently, a run of three wins against Sunderland, Liverpool, and Brighton seemed to open up an opportunity. But a disappointing draw against Nottingham Forest meant the haircut plan had to be postponed indefinitely.
Ilett remains hopeful, although he admits, "I hope to get a haircut by the end of this year." However, with a packed schedule ahead, that promise will likely be delayed.
On the night of November 1st, MU drew 2-2 with Forest in the 10th round of the Premier League. Casemiro opened the scoring, but Forest scored two quick goals at the beginning of the second half to take a 2-1 lead. In a deadlock, MU equalized with a superb volley from Amad Diallo in the 81st minute.
Manchester United's winning streak came to an end, and they only managed one point against the 18th-placed team. After 10 matches, MU are temporarily in 5th place with 17 points.
