Gabriel is nicknamed "Kid Messi" for his skillful technique. |
According to Mail Sport, the "Red Devils" convinced Gabriel to sign a new contract despite interest from many big European clubs, including direct rivals in the Premier League. Director of Sport Jason Wilcox and head of negotiations Matt Hargreaves came forward to finalize the future of this prodigy.
Immediately after that, Gabriel showed off a photo of himself wearing a MU training kit with the number 95, the highest number ever given to a first-team player. The previous record belonged to Godwill Kunoki (number 87). Gabriel was highly regarded for having a first-team shirt number even though he was only 14 years old.
Gabriel is expected by the coaches and insiders of MU to become the youngest player to play in the history of the team, even in the Premier League. Gabriel is only 14 years old and will not turn 15 until October this year, but has played outstandingly at the U18 level.
If Gabriel makes it to the Premier League next season, he could break the record for youngest player to ever play in the competition, currently held by Arsenal's Ethan Nwaneri (15 years and 181 days).
JJ Gabriel, full name Joseph Junior Andreou Gabriel, was born in London, trained at Chelsea, Arsenal and West Ham before joining MU. Since childhood, this boy has been famous for his skillful technique.
Notably, at the age of 6, Gabriel could juggle the ball 1,000 times in a row. At the age of 9, he created a storm on the internet with the video "Kid Messi" on YouTube - a nickname that Gabriel now wants to get rid of to assert his own name.
Gabriel was signed by MU at the same time as Ronaldo's son in 2021. |
Personal coach Alfie Brooks, who once coached Gabriel, was full of praise: "I've coached nearly 1,000 academy players, JJ is the most outstanding talent I've ever seen. If he were in a Premier League dressing room now, he'd be more technically skilled than the big players."
Not only is Gabriel talented, but his family has also invested heavily in him. His father, former Republic of Ireland international Joe O'Cearuill, changed his family name to Gabriel, both for religious reasons and to help build a recognizable brand. Gabriel was also homeschooled and followed a strict diet like a professional footballer.
Many scouts believe that, instead of Messi, Gabriel could follow the model of Ronaldo, a complete and explosive superstar. Even when Cristiano Ronaldo Jr was still at the MU academy, the two were close friends, often going to Ronaldo Sr.'s house to play and practice together. CR7 himself even gave Gabriel a signed shirt before leaving Old Trafford for Saudi Arabia.
At just 14 years old, "Kid Messi" has a place in the U18 team and debuted for the England U15 team in February. Now, with a new contract, MU is doing everything to make Gabriel a precious gem that no other club can steal.
