Why is it that every spring, the hearts of Vietnamese living abroad yearn for their homeland? Why, during Tet (Vietnamese New Year), do Vietnamese people never forget to visit cemeteries and graves of their grandparents and parents, and then return to their ancestral home to light incense in gratitude? In the cool, gentle spring air, flowers bloom, birds chirp and call to each other… creating a peaceful and beautiful atmosphere. Perhaps it is in this fresh, springtime atmosphere that the human soul becomes more tranquil, reflecting on the past, contemplating, and remembering the kindness received from ancestors and forefathers who built the land from the time of pioneering, shedding sweat, tears, blood, and bones so that the nation may forever remain beautiful and enduring.

Even more precious and intimate are our grandparents and parents, who bore us, raised us, and bestowed upon us material and spiritual legacies that enable us to live better and more fulfilling lives. It would be a grave mistake to forget the profound gratitude we owe to our teachers who enlightened us from kindergarten to high school and university... And it would be even more remiss to forget the friends who helped us get back on our feet when we failed or stumbled on our path to success and building our careers… All this gratitude will stay with us throughout our lives and remain deeply rooted in our hearts and minds. How could we ever forget such deep affection and profound kindness!

The culture of gratitude and appreciation is a deeply humane aspect of Vietnamese culture. Those who are ungrateful and disloyal will never truly grow into decent human beings. This cultural identity has always been intertwined with the nation's history of nation-building and defense. From the time of the Hung Kings to the present day, the Vietnamese people have simultaneously struggled for survival against nature and endured millennia of foreign invasion.

Deep within the soul of every Vietnamese person are the core cultural symbols: fervent patriotism, the readiness of the entire nation to fight against invaders; solidarity, love, and sharing of joys and sorrows with fellow countrymen; gratitude for the past, striving for the present, and a far-sighted vision for the future. These are both expressions of love and responsibility between people living together in a community.

The Vietnamese philosophy of life has always guided people to live with integrity, to know how to love, and to be responsible. It is this love and responsibility that warms the human soul during cold times, helping people to continuously cultivate themselves, learn, and practice morality so as not to be led astray by life's temptations, always striving for righteousness, truth, friendliness, and tolerance. It emphasizes sound thinking, hard work, and enduring hardship on the path to knowledge.

However, it is important to remember that the greatest and most all-encompassing love is love for the homeland... The desire for good health and wisdom to protect the homeland, while also resolutely fighting against the subversive plots of hostile forces. As human beings, we must fulfill our human duties. The duty of being human is first and foremost the duty to heaven and earth. Heaven and earth are like our father and mother; nature gives us life, provides us with countless products, resources, and sources of life energy… Closer and more practical aspects of human life include the duty of being a citizen to the homeland; the duty of being a child to ancestors, grandparents, and parents; the duty of being a student;…

Clearly, from birth to adulthood, we receive countless blessings from nature and the loving embrace of humanity. Gratitude is the wellspring of love and responsibility that has deeply permeated the consciousness of each individual. This wellspring flows on, connecting generations, individuals, and communities, creating a positive force for the living environment, enabling each person to live happily, and ultimately achieving true values: Truth, Goodness, and Beauty.

In today's fast-paced life, where people are increasingly busy and easily swept away by personal worries and desires, preserving the culture of gratitude becomes even more important. Gratitude should not be limited to formal rituals but should be expressed through living with consideration for others and the community, reflecting on the past, and appreciating what one has. This gratitude helps us to self-reflect, live more slowly, and be more responsible in life. It is also the foundation for the enduring continuation of the nation's beautiful values through generations, preventing them from fading with the passage of time. This stream of gratitude flows forever in the hearts of the Vietnamese people and each individual, blending with the beauty of spring to make the season even more radiant and meaningful.
