Sources familiar with the matter told Reuters that the United States has temporarily suspended its financial contributions to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

This move comes as the Trump administration intensifies its efforts to cut government spending.
Reuters reported that two sources directly involved in the WTO budget meeting in March revealed that a US representative announced that the country's contributions to the organization's budget for 2024 and 2025 were being temporarily suspended while Washington reviewed its contributions to international organizations.
The US will notify the WTO about this matter at an unspecified time.
A third source also confirmed the information and stated that the WTO is developing a "Plan B" in case the funding suspension is prolonged, but did not provide details.
The sources requested anonymity because the information came from a closed-door WTO budget meeting and the US suspension of funding has not been officially announced.
The White House has not yet commented on the report.
