In a post on the social media platform Truth Social on June 13 (Washington DC time), President Donald Trump announced that the agreement between the US and Iran "will be signed on June 14, and immediately after it is signed, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened to everyone."

According to the New York Times, Trump's post came hours after Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who has been mediating negotiations between the U.S. and Iran, said the two sides had agreed on a framework for a peace deal to end the Middle East conflict.
"We are closer to a peace agreement than ever before. Completion is likely to happen within the next 24 hours. Pakistan is preparing for the electronic signing of the peace agreement shortly thereafter, followed by technical-level talks next week," Sharif wrote on X.
However, immediately after President Trump's announcement, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei asserted that the parties had not yet finalized a date for signing. "We will have to wait and see the exact date for signing the memorandum of understanding, although it certainly won't be tomorrow," Baghaei said.
Iranian diplomatic officials added: Tehran "does not rule out the possibility of that (signing an agreement with the US) happening in the coming days. However, due to the hesitation of the other side, we need to be cautious when making any comments on this process."
The US and Iran have not officially announced the contents of the agreement. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi previously stated that the agreement between the US and Iran comprises two phases. First, the two sides will sign a memorandum on "ending the conflict on all fronts," and then negotiations will continue to reach a long-term agreement.
The New York Times reported that the memorandum between the two sides included a requirement for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and for the US to lift its blockade of Iranian ports. During the 60-day ceasefire, the two sides would discuss outstanding issues such as Iran's nuclear program and US sanctions.
In related developments, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer spoke by phone with US President Donald Trump on June 13 to welcome progress in US-Iran negotiations, while emphasizing "the importance of ensuring any agreement brings about a lasting and sustainable peace."
