Quang Tri province has a total natural area of 1,270,000 hectares, of which 841,224.04 hectares are forested. With the determination to develop high-yield, high-quality timber plantation areas, Quang Tri has issued many mechanisms and policies, and collaborated with international organizations to mobilize and utilize resources to support forest owners in developing large-timber plantations...
Resolution No. 96/NQ-HĐND, dated February 27, 2026, of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Council on approving the adjustment of the Quang Tri Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, has set the following goals: Restructuring the agricultural sector in conjunction with the application of science and technology, digital transformation, land consolidation, and the development of key product brands; developing sustainable forestry associated with forest protection and development, and providing carbon credits; focusing on large-timber plantations and forest product processing industries; strengthening the management, protection, and efficient use of forest resources, linking forest economic development with biodiversity conservation, forest environmental services, and ecotourism…
In particular, the province also strives to become a center for supplying raw timber and processing wood from planted forests in the Central region by 2030, especially large timber forests certified by FSC sustainable forest management standards, meeting the requirements for processing into various export products to major markets such as the United States, the EU, and Japan.

To effectively implement the resolution, the Forest Protection Department has recently actively advised the Department of Agriculture and Environment and the Provincial People's Committee to direct localities, functional units, and forest owners to implement many solutions to improve the productivity, quality, and efficiency of forest planting, such as: developing a plan for converting industrial crops suitable to the soil and climate; creating large-timber plantations that bring high and long-term economic efficiency; developing a plan for reforestation in 2026; doing a good job in seed production and related issues in the field of forestry; effectively implementing a number of policies supporting forest management and protection in the 2026-2030 period; actively monitoring and updating forest changes; appraising and submitting for approval sustainable forest management plans…
Currently, the province has 79 establishments producing and trading forestry seedlings. The number of seedlings produced in the province reaches nearly 61 million per year, basically meeting the annual reforestation plan in the area and supplying some neighboring provinces. The annual seed supply for reforestation in Quang Tri province is always controlled at over 80%.
Currently, many forestry seedling production and trading establishments in the province are also boosting production and supplying the market with tissue-cultured hybrid acacia seedlings (BV10, BV16 lines) and tissue-cultured acacia mangium seedlings (AA9, Clt 7, Clt 18, Clt 26 lines) to meet the demand for large-scale timber forest planting. In addition, these establishments are also increasing the production of many native tree species such as teak, mahogany, rosewood, and cypress.
In 2025, the entire province planted 306 hectares of special-use and protection forests and 22,126 hectares of production forests, achieving 103% of the plan. Implementing the project to plant 1 billion trees, the province planted 3 million scattered trees (exceeding the plan by 14%) and nearly 2 million trees in concentrated forest plantings; carried out maintenance work on 2,836 hectares of protection and special-use forests and 64,975 hectares of production forests.
In particular, functional units have coordinated to assess and certify an additional 14,936.44 hectares of FSC-certified planted forests, raising the total area of FSC-certified forests in the province to 52,999.26 hectares by the end of 2025. The province has established a supply chain linking plantation timber between forest owners and several businesses, guaranteeing the purchase of the entire output of FSC-certified timber at a price 10-12% higher than that of non-certified timber.
Mr. Tran Manh Luat, Deputy Head of the Provincial Forest Protection Department, said that to further improve the quality and efficiency of forest planting in the province, in 2026 and subsequent years, the department will strengthen its advisory role to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, coordinating with relevant departments and units in the province to promote connections with projects, organizations, and businesses to support the development of sustainable forest management plans and forest certification; complete the process of advising the Provincial People's Council to issue a resolution on supporting investment in planting large-timber production forests to support households, individuals, and communities in developing large-timber plantation forests, gradually forming concentrated raw material areas to meet the demand for plantation timber raw materials for processing; implement the issuance of forest codes for production forests; promote and attract investment in large-scale, high-tech wood processing factories to implement linkages and joint ventures in forestry production, forming value chains and increasing added value in forestry production...
