Improve traffic culture

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - Every day, it is not difficult to see images of traffic police helping elderly people cross the street, or the green volunteer shirts of union members and youth (YVTN) participating in traffic flow on the roads, or giving up seats to the disabled and the elderly on public transport... These are all beautiful features of traffic culture that have been actively implemented by the YVTN in the province.

Improving traffic culture

Traffic police are directing family members of candidates participating in the 2025 high school graduation exam to stand in the correct positions to avoid traffic congestion.

At Minh Khai Secondary School (Hac Thanh Ward), every morning at the beginning of class and every afternoon after school ends, the school's youth volunteer team gathers around the school gate to guide and remind students not to gather in front of the gate, while also directing traffic and preventing students from going against the flow of traffic, thus avoiding congestion and accidents for other road users. In addition, the youth volunteer team monitors students for traffic violations and reports them to the school's administration for appropriate action. Thanks to this, traffic congestion at the school gate has been significantly reduced, ensuring smooth traffic flow for vehicles passing through the school area.

Furthermore, during flag-raising ceremonies and extracurricular activities, the youth volunteer team actively collaborates with the school's administration to disseminate information related to traffic regulations, such as: "Do not use mobile phones while driving," "Drive in the correct lane," setting good examples in maintaining traffic order and safety, and highlighting the bad habits and behaviors of some young people who lack awareness when participating in traffic... Through these activities, not only is awareness of traffic safety laws raised among students, but also aims to build a traffic culture for students from their time in school.

Speaking about preserving traffic culture among young people, Tran Huyen Trang, Secretary of the Hac Thanh Ward Youth Union, said: Responding to the "Youth and Traffic Culture" campaign, Youth Union members in the area have enthusiastically participated in volunteer activities to maintain urban order and traffic safety. To further spread the development of traffic culture among young people, the Ward Youth Union is organizing many diverse activities such as disseminating laws on traffic safety; having Youth Union members sign pledges not to violate traffic laws; and encouraging young people to practice civilized behavior when participating in traffic... through organizing forums, seminars, specialized workshops, and exchanges on traffic culture in the community and through mass media. Simultaneously, in coordination with schools in the area, the "Safe Traffic Gate" model was implemented, a rapid response team for traffic was established, and youth union members were mobilized to carry out practical projects and tasks in ensuring traffic safety. Through this, not only was the pioneering and volunteer spirit of young people promoted, but it also contributed to reducing traffic accidents.

Captain Nguyen Trung Hieu, Secretary of the Youth Union of the Traffic Police Department, Thanh Hoa Provincial Police, said: "In recent years, traffic safety in the province has made significant progress, with a considerable reduction in the number of traffic accidents. However, the situation of young people driving motorbikes at high speeds, overtaking recklessly, swerving, not wearing helmets, and riding in groups of two or three on the road still occurs. To raise awareness among young people when participating in traffic, the Youth Union of the Traffic Police Department annually develops specific plans and programs that are practical and suitable to the conditions of each area; actively propagates and educates Youth Union members to comply with the Road Traffic Law, focusing on innovating the content and form of traffic safety propaganda on the Provincial Police's electronic information portal, on Zalo, and on the fanpages of the units... to attract young people to participate."

In addition, the youth union actively coordinated the dissemination of information and the signing of commitments to abide by traffic safety laws for 1,023 students and 79 teachers from various schools; over 500 officials from the People's Committees of wards and communes, heads of residential groups; and over 100 youth union members and union officials... This contributed to preventing and reducing the number of traffic accidents in the area.

Over the years, the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee has focused on directing all levels of the Youth Union in the province to organize activities to disseminate traffic laws and traffic safety culture to a large number of young people through diverse and flexible forms suitable to each locality and unit, attracting the participation of a large number of Youth Union officials and members. Along with that, they have organized for young people to sign commitments to comply with traffic safety laws and traffic culture, such as wearing standard quality helmets when riding motorcycles or scooters; not driving under the influence of alcohol; not participating in or encouraging illegal racing; and establishing mobile teams to promote traffic safety through cultural and artistic programs to raise awareness among the public and young people. To date, the entire province maintains the effective operation of 246 youth volunteer teams participating in promoting and ensuring traffic safety and order. 131 models of "Self-managed school gates for traffic safety", 18 models of "Safe ferry crossings", 3 models of "Safe railways"...

Through practical activities, the Youth Union has contributed to reducing traffic safety issues on the roads and spreading positive images of traffic culture to a large number of people, including young people and children.
