Dr. Nguyen Duy Tan - Director of An Giang General Hospital shared: “To achieve that goal, the hospital has implemented many solutions decisively and synchronously, such as administrative reform, developing high-quality human resources, developing specialized techniques and updating new treatment protocols, improving service quality, training quality, scientific research, directing lower-level hospitals, international cooperation, attracting and successfully implementing research and training projects…”.

Recognizing the importance of researching and applying scientific and technological achievements, and with the theme "Heart in Medical Ethics, Steadfast in Faith," the hospital successfully organized a scientific conference bringing together over 500 doctors, nurses, and technicians from within and outside the province. The conference featured leading experts, renowned speakers, and over 90 research topics and 20 of the latest scientific innovations. From advanced medical techniques and groundbreaking treatment protocols to diverse perspectives from top national experts and intelligent management solutions, all aimed at the single goal of elevating the mindset: "Optimal safety and effectiveness for patients."

A breakthrough in modern medicine, the interventional cardiology team at the hospital recently independently performed two techniques: left bundle branch pacemaker implantation and ICD defibrillator implantation. With these two techniques, the hospital is a pioneer in the Mekong Delta region, helping people avoid traveling long distances for treatment. For example, on November 15th, the Interventional Cardiology Department of An Giang General Hospital successfully performed two left bundle branch system pacemaker implants for elderly patients – a technique previously only available at Cho Ray Hospital and the National Heart Institute.

Dr. Nguyen Duy Tan added: “The hospital currently has 1,200 actual beds, serving more than 2,000 outpatient visits per day. To date, more than 8,400 diagnostic and treatment techniques at the hospital have been approved by the Department of Health . Each year, the hospital performs approximately 1,200 coronary intervention procedures, nearly 100 arrhythmia ablation procedures with cardiac electrophysiology, 50 permanent pacemaker implantation procedures, 30 cases of chronic venous insufficiency treatment using intravascular laser and sclerotherapy, and manages more than 125,000 specialized cardiovascular examinations. The hospital is approaching the level of tertiary centers with techniques being implemented for the first time in the Mekong Delta such as left bundle branch pacemaker implantation, coronary intervention with synchronized support of IVUS-NIRS coronary angiography and OCT intravascular optical coherence tomography according to European and US standards.”

Dr. Tan shared: “We are constantly researching and implementing new techniques so that people can receive treatment right in their home province while ensuring the highest professional effectiveness with the vision of “Putting the people's health at the center - disease prevention is key - keeping patients close to home for treatment.” The hospital continuously trains a high-quality workforce, applies smart hospital technology, expands international cooperation, and builds a modern, safe, patient-centered hospital.” Recently, on December 6th, the team from the Interventional Cardiology Department of An Giang General Hospital successfully saved a 51-year-old male patient who suffered cardiac arrest due to malignant arrhythmia on a background of dilated cardiomyopathy using intensive resuscitation and implantation of an automatic defibrillator (ICD), helping the patient overcome the brink of death and recover well. This is a specialized technique to prevent sudden death due to malignant arrhythmias, which has been routinely implemented at provincial-level hospitals for a long time.

Each patient saved is a beautiful story of faith, humanity, and responsibility on the part of those in white coats.
