NATO leaves the door open for dialogue with Russia.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced on June 17 that the military alliance is ready to support any decision by the European Union (EU) regarding the restoration of direct contact with Russia.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the NATO Defence Ministers' meeting in Brussels, Rutte said the issue was not currently being discussed at the political level within NATO, but was primarily being considered internally within the EU. This statement comes as the EU is discussing the possibility of resuming direct diplomatic channels with Moscow in the coming months.
