Alexander Isak has been a key factor in Newcastle United's rise this season. |
According to The Chronicle , Newcastle's board of directors encountered difficulties in negotiating a contract with Isak. The Swedish star did not accept the club's initial proposals in the proposed contract.
Therefore, the "Magpies" will have to re-evaluate the situation and plan the next step to keep the player. This information comes in the context of Arsenal and Liverpool expressing great interest in Isak, considering him a top priority to strengthen the attack in the summer of 2025.
Isak's contract with Newcastle runs until June 2028, and Newcastle have previously said they would not sell for less than £150m. However, should Newcastle fail to qualify for next season's Champions League, they could struggle to keep hold of the player.
Asked about his future by Swedish newspaper Fotboll Skanalen in the middle of this month, Isak said: “There has been absolutely no discussion from the club or us. I am completely focused on playing. There are a lot of rumours outside, but within the club, no one talks about such things. I just want to contribute to Newcastle.”
“Now we have won a trophy, but the goal is to finish the season strongly and qualify for the Champions League. Everything is quite normal, almost like before. I try to relax and live as usual. But obviously, it is difficult to avoid what is written on social media,” added Isak.
Isak has continued to impress for both club and country this season, scoring 19 goals in 25 Premier League appearances and playing a key role in Eddie Howe’s side’s push for a top-five finish.
