On December 7th, Neymar played the full 90 minutes and made a significant contribution to Santos' 3-0 victory over Cruzeiro. This result helped Santos avoid relegation.
Neymar's return was seen as a crucial turning point, as he scored 5 goals in the last 4 games of the season, becoming a source of morale and expertise for the entire team.
Speaking after the match, Neymar admitted to having to play in pain: “I returned to Santos to do this, to help the team with all my might. The last few weeks have been really difficult. I am grateful to those who have been by my side, because without them, I wouldn't have been able to play with my knee like this.”
Reportedly, Neymar refused early surgery in order to return to contribute to Santos for over a month. After the 2025 season ends, he will take time to rest before undergoing surgery. The former Barcelona and PSG star has not revealed when he will return to playing.
This immediately caused concern among Brazilian fans, especially since Neymar hasn't played for the national team since the defeat against Uruguay in October 2023. Brazil's head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, had previously stated that Neymar could only return to the national team if he was in peak physical and form condition.
With surgery imminent and his age no longer young, Neymar's chances of participating in the 2026 World Cup are becoming a big question mark.
