Russia claims to have shot down eight Storm Shadow cruise missiles, but appears to have missed two ATACMS long-range missiles in the coordinated strike against Crimea.
"Ukrainian forces attempted an attack on the Crimean Peninsula on the afternoon of October 30th using eight Storm Shadow cruise missiles. The attack was neutralized by on-duty air defenses, and all missiles were shot down," the Russian Ministry of Defense announced today.
Mikhail Razvozhaev, the mayor of Sevastopol, previously stated that two airborne targets were shot down over the Crimean capital, causing debris to fall in several locations and injuring one person.

Rybar, a pro-Russian military account with over a million followers on Telegram, said on the same day that Ukrainian forces carried out a "coordinated attack" and that two Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) had fallen near the village of Olenivka, in the eastern part of the Crimean Peninsula.
"Air defense units allowed two ATACMS missiles to pass through, but a series of preventative measures beforehand prevented them from causing serious damage," the account stated, adding that the Russian Black Sea Fleet subsequently detected and destroyed three suicide drones approaching the Sevastopol naval base.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense announced on the same day that it had "hit a strategic air defense target" in western Crimea, but did not disclose further information.
Russian officials have not commented on reports that ATACMS missiles attacked Crimea.

Russia annexed Crimea in 2014 despite protests from Ukraine and the West. Crimea has recently been subjected to repeated attacks, as the peninsula serves as a rear base for the Russian Black Sea Fleet and a crucial supply route for Russian forces in southern and eastern Ukraine. Ukrainian leaders have repeatedly stated their intention to reclaim Crimea.
