Brigadier General Yevhen Lasiichuk of the 7th Rapid Reaction Corps of the Ukrainian Airborne Forces said that Russia had changed its attack tactics after suffering losses in both equipment and personnel.
Accordingly, Russia is attempting to infiltrate in small groups into the heart of Ukrainian defenses. Previously, they typically attempted to advance in large groups, using armored vehicles and cars. Infantry forces would drive to the nearest possible Ukrainian positions before launching an attack.
According to Lasiichuk, such vehicles had become too easy targets for Ukrainian defense forces. Therefore, the Russian military command decided to change its approach in offensive operations.
General Lasiichuk explained that Russian forces are operating in small groups of just two to three people, trying to move undetected between Ukrainian front lines, making the most of the terrain and weather conditions.
"Armored convoys carrying 20 or 30 soldiers heading toward the Ukrainian front lines are largely a thing of the past, because such formations are now too easy targets for us," said Lasiichuk.
"Instead, Russian forces employed infiltration tactics, sending small groups of 2-3 soldiers through gaps in Ukrainian positions under the cover of terrain and bad weather, attempting to dig trenches deep behind the front lines," he further explained. However, this was not a very effective tactic for the Russian army.
Near the Pokrovsk region, Russia has begun employing a new tactic involving the use of the new BM-35 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), powered by the Starlink system, to advance along the front line. This UAV has a similar design to the Shahed series but is smaller in size.
"The BM-35 UAV was recently detected in this area. This is a new system, similar to the Shahed but smaller in size. They attempted to attack our equipment from a considerable distance, almost deep in the rear lines, while using Starlink communication systems," the commander of the 7th Corps added.
According to Lasiichuk, Ukrainian forces are still holding the northern outskirts of Pokrovsk.
Meanwhile, according to analysts, Russia's spring-summer ground offensive has effectively stalled. The advance rate of Moscow's forces is only a few dozen meters per day.
