"Today, in relation to the ongoing events, this fighter jet has participated in all operations. It still has to complete its test flights, and then the Ministry of Defense will make the final decision," Sergei Korotkov, chief engineer of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), told RIA Novosti .
Korotkov gave the above answer in response to a question about whether a decision had been made on mass production of the MiG-35 for the Russian Aerospace Forces.
According to RIA Novosti , there are six pre-production MiG-35s currently in service with the Russian Aerospace Forces.
Korotkov said that the characteristics of the MiG-35 "please foreign customers." Export negotiations for the MiG-35 are also underway, but he did not specify which country is a potential buyer.
The MiG-35 is a "4++" generation aircraft, created using fifth-generation fighter technology to operate in areas of high-intensity armed conflict under dense air defense conditions.
This aircraft model is designed to destroy airborne targets at all times and in all weather conditions, and is capable of destroying both mobile and stationary ground targets.
According to the developers, some of the advantages of the MiG-35 include its ability to reduce radar signature, its active phased-array radar, its new engine type with greater thrust, and its long flight range, especially if refueled in the air.
The MiG-35 is capable of carrying and launching all types of guided and unguided missiles, as well as the latest "smart" bombs.
