Việt NamViệt Nam05/09/2024

Comedian Tan Beo suffered a stroke and has been undergoing rehabilitation and physical therapy for the past year.

On September 5th, Tan Loc, the son of actor Tan Beo, revealed that his father suffered a stroke in mid-2023. He was fortunately discovered by family members in time and rushed to the hospital. Tan Beo's condition is currently improving; he can walk and converse a few simple sentences, but he must continue physical therapy in Ho Chi Minh City.

Tấn Beo is being cared for by his wife and some relatives. However, doctors have not yet determined when the actor will fully recover, nor are they certain about his chances of returning to the stage.

When Tan Beo fell seriously ill, his family remained silent to avoid worrying the audience and to maintain a positive image of him. However, recently, a video of the actor having lunch at a rehabilitation center went viral on social media. Many viewers expressed concern seeing the actor looking thin, his hands trembling as he ate. When asked about acupuncture and exercise, Tan Beo simply replied, "I'm fine," and waved to the viewers.

To avoid negative rumors, the actor's family revealed information about his health. "In the past, my father always appeared in public with a cheerful and optimistic image, not with the haggard appearance he has now," the actor's son said. A family representative also stated that they are not accepting donations or support.

Before suffering a stroke in March 2023, artist Tan Beo fell down the stairs, plummeting more than 10 steps and losing consciousness. The fall caused soft tissue injuries, leaving Tan Beo with pain in his back and hips, making it difficult for him to sit and lie down. At the time, Tan Beo said he didn't go to the hospital for a check-up because he didn't feel it was necessary.

Prior to his health setback, the actor had stated that he lived a peaceful life, "having enough to eat three meals a day and wear enough clothes." He didn't act in many films or participate in major shows, but still received invitations to perform in the Mekong Delta and Central Vietnam every month. Compared to the golden age of comedy, Tấn Beo's performance frequency has decreased by more than half. Even so, he doesn't feel sad because he still receives affection from his audience.

"When they meet me on the street, they ask why they haven't seen Tan Beo in a movie in a long time, which means they still care and are looking forward to it. I'm just afraid people will say: 'This guy appears too often, it's getting boring,'" Tan Beo said at the time.

Artist Tan Beo, whose real name is Tan Danh, is 59 years old and the son of the renowned Cai Luong (traditional Vietnamese opera) artist Tan Tai, nicknamed the "emperor of vinyl records." In the 1980s, he performed Cai Luong with theater troupes in the Mekong Delta. In 1996, when Cai Luong declined, Tan Beo, his younger brother Tan Bo, and comedian My Chi formed a comedy group. Later, the Tan Beo brothers separated and pursued independent careers.

In 2003, Tan Beo and his younger brother won the "Outstanding Actor/Comedy Group" award for their skit. Why go to the temple? At the Comedy Gala, Tan Beo also won the Best Comedic Actor award at the 2003 Mai Vang Awards. He has also participated in films and television series such as... When men get pregnant, Legend of the Martial Arts The smell of coriander.
