Kieu Hung - talented singer of revolutionary music

His passing has ended a journey of almost a lifetime devoted to the music stage, to the Fatherland and to melodies that touched millions of hearts. The name of Meritorious Artist Kieu Hung is associated with musical pieces that have become memories of many generations: "Love song", " Ho Chi Minh is the most beautiful name", "The voice of the city named after him", "Sound of a new day", "Rang tram bau"... His voice is clear, bright, passionate, as if carrying the scent of rice, the river and the breath of the times.

Not only performing, he was also a vocal instructor, studied abroad at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory (former Soviet Union), and contributed to training many generations of artists. In 1995, he moved to Germany to settle down with his family.

Despite living far away from his homeland, his voice has never left his homeland. From performances in the Vietnamese community to singing classes held right at his home, he has become a spiritual refuge for those who miss their homeland.

On artist Kieu Hai's personal page, many domestic artists sent their condolences, including artist Manh Hung and Meritorious Artist Minh Vuong, mourning his passing.

Kieu Hung with a serious illness and his soulmate

In 2008, a sudden stroke left him paralyzed on one side, with memory loss and the inability to speak. What hurt him more than the illness was the fear of not being able to sing anymore. By his side was his soulmate, Mrs. Viet Bac. She patiently taught him every step, every key, every word.

"Her love for him, her care, her concern, so that he could have a meaningful return, that is the most sacred thing in an artist's life" - Singer Bich Phuong said.

There were times when tears fell from the pain with him, but he never gave up. Thanks to that love, he gradually recovered. In 2011, his family brought him back to Vietnam for treatment, and he was directly treated by Professor Nguyen Tai Thu with acupuncture. His health improved, and his memory gradually returned.

"The moment of returning to the stage At the 60th anniversary of the Vietnam National Music and Dance Theatre in 2014, Meritorious Artist Kieu Hung appeared for the first time after 6 years of serious illness. His voice was not as strong as before, but the audience stood up and applauded for a long time. Not because of his technique. But because he returned - with his will and love for music. That was the moment when the artist met himself again" - singer Trong Tan emotionally recalled.

Kieu Hung leaves a spiritual legacy

In addition to the songs that have accompanied him through the years, Meritorious Artist Kieu Hung also left behind about 30 self-composed songs - most of which were written during long nights of homesickness.

"He is a shining example for generations of singers and artists in the country. Farewell to him - a legendary voice" - singer Dong Quan shared.

He once set to music three poems by martyr Nguyen Van Thac in "Forever 20", as a silent dialogue between music and history. Once in Nha Trang, when the audience recognized him and invited him to sing, he sang amidst the sea breeze.

That night, he was restless, just to say one sentence: "No place gives me as many emotions as my homeland. I want to return to live the last years of my life in Vietnam."

Today, he has returned. Not in the space of thunderous applause. But in the memory, love and gratitude of many generations of audiences who loved his voice.

"Farewell, Meritorious Artist Kieu Hung. His voice has passed through time, and will remain for a long time – like a beautiful, quiet but deep note, of an artist's life dedicated to music and the Fatherland" – Meritorious Artist and singer Hong Van said.
