Millions of flight tickets on sale for Tet holiday
There is only a little over a month left until the New Year holiday and a little over 3 months left until the Lunar New Year holiday. To meet the travel needs of the people, domestic airlines have opened ticket sales early.
A representative of Vietnam Airlines said that this year, the airline opened ticket sales for Tet from mid-September. "About 3 million tickets for the 2024 Lunar New Year have been opened for sale on all distribution channels, from websites, mobile applications, to ticket offices and official agents," said a representative of Vietnam Airlines, adding that 3 million tickets across the airline's domestic and international flight network are open for sale for flights from January 25 to February 24, 2024 (ie December 15, Quy Mao year to January 15, Giap Thin year).
Of the total 3 million Tet flight tickets provided on the entire domestic and international flight network (approximately 15,000 flights), there are 2 million domestic tickets (10,300 flights) and 1 million international tickets (4,650 flights). This person also said that based on passenger demand, the airline focuses on increasing flights on domestic routes connecting the three cities of Hanoi , Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City with the following provinces and cities: Hai Phong, Vinh, Thanh Hoa, Hue, Quy Nhon, Quang Nam, Pleiku, Da Lat, Buon Ma Thuot, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc... For the international flight network, the routes with the most seats provided are between Vietnam and Japan, Korea, China, Thailand, Singapore, Laos, Cambodia, Australia, France, and Germany.
Similarly, Vietjet customers can also buy Tet flight tickets on routes from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, Vinh, Thanh Hoa, Hai Phong, Da Lat, Phu Yen, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc... with a total of more than 2.5 million seats. The number of tickets that Bamboo Airways and Vietravel Airlines offer to the market also fluctuates between 700,000 and 1 million seats across the entire flight network.
Domestic flights are more expensive than international flights
According to a survey by reporters on November 16, there are still many air tickets for Tet holidays but they are not cheap. Specifically, if you choose to fly Hanoi-Phu Quoc on Vietnam Airlines departing on December 29, 2023 and returning on January 1, 2024, customers will have more than 20 flights to choose from, but the lowest ticket price is 4.1 million VND/way and the highest is up to 13.1 million VND/way. Thus, the lowest air ticket price for a family of 4 will be from 33.86 million VND to 104 million VND/4 round-trip tickets. Meanwhile, during the same period, if customers choose to fly from Hanoi to Thailand, the round-trip ticket price for 4 people is only from 29.18 million VND. Similarly, there are still many air tickets for Tet holidays but they are not cheaper.
According to the survey, if flying from Hanoi to Phu Quoc on February 10, 2024 (the first day of Tet), returning on February 13, 2024 (the fourth day of Tet), the lowest ticket price for the early flight is also from 4.3 million VND/way/person; the highest price is 13.3 million VND/way/person. The Hanoi - Nha Trang flight on February 11 (the second day of Tet), returning on February 17 (the eighth day of Tet) of VietJet Air costs 5.87 million VND; Bamboo Airways is 6.68 million VND and Vietnam Airlines is 7.1 million VND. Also departing on February 11 and returning on February 17, the Hanoi - Da Lat flight of VietJet Air costs 4.6 million VND/way; Bamboo Airways is 7.1 million VND/way. Meanwhile, the Hanoi - Da Nang flight of VietJet Air is 3.31 million VND/way; Vietravel Airlines is 3.2 million VND; Bamboo Airways is 5.1 million VND and Vietnam Airlines is 4.97 million VND/way.
Not only the above flight, according to reporters from ticket sales websites of Vietnamese airlines, no flight or route has been reported to be sold out. Round-trip airfare for the route from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi of Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways at most times is around 7 million VND. On the same route, Vietjet is selling at 6.37 million VND. The price for flights with many workers returning home for Tet such as Thanh Hoa and Vinh is also the same or 200,000 - 300,000 VND lower depending on the flight time and airline. One of the main reasons why the Tet airfare market is quiet according to agents is due to high ticket prices, while the economy is difficult.
Ms. Nguyen Sinh (Giang Vo, Hanoi) - the owner of a long-standing airline ticket agency said: Never before has the atmosphere of selling airline tickets for Tet been as quiet as this year. However, the characteristic of airline tickets is that there are many different price ranges, opened for sale from low to high according to the principle of cheap prices sold in advance. The further passengers buy tickets from the departure date, the more opportunities they will have to save costs. To save money, passengers should buy tickets as soon as they have a plan, the closer to the departure date, the higher the ticket price will be because many customers have bought cheap tickets in advance.
However, Ms. Sinh also affirmed that it is difficult to buy cheap Tet flight tickets, it is just "cheap as much as possible" because this is always the time when people's travel demand increases dramatically. When demand increases, it is normal for airlines to open high prices. The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam also recommends that passengers proactively arrange their schedules early to buy tickets as soon as possible. The fact that airlines open Tet ticket sales early is also an opportunity for people to proactively plan and arrange their routes appropriately.
While the Tet air ticket market is still quite quiet, the Tet train ticket market is quite bustling. By early November, the railway industry had sold 71,000 Tet train tickets for all routes. In just the first day of Tet train ticket sales (October 20), the railway industry successfully sold more than 40,000 tickets (successful tickets are tickets that have been transacted and paid for). Currently, there are many Tet train tickets left on all routes and days. People who want to buy tickets are invited to contact the stations, through ticket sales websites, on e-wallet applications, train ticket sales apps and through the ticket sales hotline. This year's Tet train tickets increased by an average of 1-4% compared to last year, depending on the route and type of train for peak times. Particularly, the price of train tickets decreased by 1-8% compared to last year. The highest price for a Tet train ticket (sleeper on the Saigon - Hanoi route) is 2,950,000 VND, the lowest price for a Tet train ticket (seat on the Saigon - Hanoi route) is about 1,950,000 VND. The price for an extra seat ticket will be about 80% of the lowest price for the Saigon - Hanoi route (around 1.5 million VND). Although the Tet train ticket price has increased slightly compared to the peak of the previous Tet season, compared to other means of transport such as airplanes, the train price is still very "soft".
