"What matters is how you got there, how you overcame countless obstacles and even pain. Happiness lies in the journey, not the destination, someone once said, and that's always true."
These are the words of journalist Truong Anh Ngoc after witnessing Hoang Thi Ngoc Hoa's effort to finish the 42.195km race at the 2026 Tien Phong Newspaper National Marathon Championship, which recently took place in Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa).
The Nha Trang race course is flat and of good quality, but the sea breeze poses a significant challenge for the athletes, in addition to some steep sections. Having won the Tien Phong Marathon four times, Ngoc Hoa is also a seasoned veteran of Vietnamese athletics.
But the marathon race is never easy, if not the most demanding event in athletics. Hoang Thi Ngoc Hoa's competitors, such as Pham Thi Hong Le and Le Thi Tuyet, are all regional-level contenders.

With about 30 meters to go, Ngoc Hoa stumbled as if she were nearly exhausted. She fell but still managed to crawl across the finish line to win the silver medal. That was one of the most memorable moments of the 67th Tien Phong Newspaper National Marathon Championship.
That was a victory of courage, willpower, and an unwavering spirit in the face of adversity. Beautiful sports are not just about the race of the strongest. The gold medal is a symbol of victory.
Sports are beautiful because of their ability to spread positive values to the community. From this perspective, Hoang Thi Ngoc Hoa's silver medal is as valuable as pure gold.
