Director Quoc Thao and Meritorious Artist Huu Chau

On August 17th at Quoc Thao Stage, Meritorious Artist Huu Chau and director Quoc Thao presented the audience, especially a large number of young art enthusiasts, with an inspiring sharing session about their profession.

More than just a conversation, this was a rare moment for the younger generation to directly "touch" the deepest aspects of acting, where the experience, knowledge, and passion for the craft of two master artists powerfully permeated the space.

Huu Chau devoted himself to passing on his skills.

Director Quoc Thao – the founder of the theater bearing his name – affirmed that this is a precious opportunity that students and young audiences will hardly have a second chance to experience. Because Meritorious Artist Huu Chau is not only a famous actor with a series of memorable roles, but also a "teacher" who knows how to sincerely and profoundly pass on the passion for the profession.

Many young actors and audience members came to the meaningful conversation with Meritorious Artist Huu Chau at the Quoc Thao Stage.

He advised the younger generation: "Becoming a professional is a long journey, requiring more than just passion. You must cultivate your knowledge and life experiences so that you can step onto the stage with genuine life lessons, and only then will you be able to touch the hearts of the audience."

Director Quoc Thao and Meritorious Artist Huu Chau chat with young actors at the Quoc Thao Theater.

In the workshop, Meritorious Artist Huu Chau analyzed the subtle aspects of acting: how to delve into the character's inner feelings, how to prepare mentally before taking on a role, and how to maintain authenticity in every glance and voice.

These lessons went beyond theory; he and Quoc Thao illustrated them with their own past roles. As a result, the conversation became lively, allowing both the audience and students to flourish in a creative space.

Huu Chau has had many outstanding roles.

Coming from a renowned artistic family, Meritorious Artist Huu Chau has established his name through many well-received roles such as: the grandfather in "The Roast Pig Oven", Nguyen Trai in "The Secret of Le Chi Garden", Vo Cong in the purely Vietnamese musical "Tien Nga", Lo Quy in "Thunderstorm"... and also made his mark in cinema with the "Best Actor" award at the 2017 Green Star Awards for his role as Le Lieu in the film "Lotto".

Meritorious Artist Huu Chau analyzed the vocal delivery, stage voice, and character psychology of young actors after watching them perform at the Quoc Thao Theatre.

Besides his artistic activities, he also devoted much of his energy to teaching at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Film, Hong Van Theatre, and Thien Dang Theatre, contributing to nurturing the next generation of actors.

In particular, Huu Chau always brings his love for Vietnamese history into his lectures, encouraging young people to seek out historical documents and figures and recreate them on stage. For him, this is a way for art to become a bridge between the past and the present, helping young audiences to love and be proud of their country even more.

He confided, "What I hope for most is that my students and young actors will preserve something from previous generations to pass on to future generations. When we are no longer able to create those performances, they will be the ones to continue."

The play "The Fiery Field" will be restaged at Quoc Thao Stage on August 16, 2025.

Huu Chau fuels creativity.

This discussion was held after the re-performance of "The Fiery Field" (August 16), a historical play recreating the night of June 15, 1968, on the Lang Sau field, where people from the outskirts of the city sacrificed themselves for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. In the atmosphere leading up to the 80th anniversary of National Day on September 2, the blend of young artists trained at the Quoc Thao Theatre with veteran names like Quoc Thao, Minh Nhi, Tuyet Thu… further enhanced the sacred value of the performance.

It can be said that the two consecutive events—a performance and a talk—formed a meaningful chain of connections: the audience enjoyed a revolutionary play with strong political commentary, expressing national pride, and then continued to listen to Meritorious Artist Huu Chau and Quoc Thao "pass on their skills." These were not just acting lessons, but also a spark of passion and belief for the younger generation to continue on the path of theater—a path that is inherently difficult but also full of glory.

"For many years in a row, Huu Chau has been voted the winner of the Mai Vang Award by readers of the Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper. He also excels in acting, physical performance, and vocal delivery. He is a role model for young people to follow," said artist Quoc Thao.
