People in Tuyen Quang are buying food to stock up in preparation for Typhoon Yagi.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Duong, a pork vendor at Tam Co Market, said: “Despite the rainy weather, the number of people coming to the market on the 6th and 7th was much higher than usual. Many people shared that Typhoon No. 3 was approaching and needed to buy food to stock up. Normally, my meat stall still had plenty left by 11 am, but today it was already sold out by 9 am. Especially on the afternoon of September 6th, a large number of people came to buy meat to stock up.”
Many other small business owners also said they were surprised to see the sudden surge in customers. Because the amount of goods prepared was the same as usual, customers who arrived later didn't have time to buy. Today, the weather in Tuyen Quang city has been rainy, so the number of customers has decreased compared to yesterday.
Observations at supermarkets from yesterday afternoon until now show a significant increase in the number of customers buying fresh food. Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc, manager of the Sang Nhung Green Agricultural Products store, said that the number of customers surged yesterday afternoon at both locations. Customers prioritized stocking up on items such as meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, and rice. All essential items were purchased in quantities two or three times higher than usual. Responding to the demand, the store promptly restocked its inventory to meet the needs of the public.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen, from Group 14, Tan Ha Ward (Tuyen Quang City), said: "The storm is predicted to make a major landfall, and things might be difficult for the next few days, so while I was at the supermarket, I bought enough supplies for three days. I also plan to buy a portable gas stove in case of a power outage. My child told me to be cautious, but it's better to be prepared than not."
Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong from Hung Thanh ward (Tuyen Quang city) shared that her family is large and has many children. Therefore, in addition to fresh meat products, her family also chooses to buy instant noodles for convenience when it's raining or stormy and they don't want to go outside.
At Winmart supermarket in Tuyen Quang, in addition to in-store customers, the number of online shoppers was also higher than usual today. Orders focused on essential products. The supermarket offers a grocery shopping service, making it very convenient for customers to stay home and avoid the rain and storms while still having food delivered to their doorstep.

According to the National Center for Hydrometeorology, at 1 PM on September 6th, the center of Typhoon No. 3 (internationally named Yagi) strengthened into a super typhoon. Forecasts indicate that over the next 72-120 hours, areas within Tuyen Quang province are likely to experience strong winds of level 4 and 5, later increasing to level 6 and 7. From the night of September 6th, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in the province. Specifically, from September 7th to September 9th, there is a possibility of heavy rain, with localized areas experiencing very heavy rain and thunderstorms. The total rainfall is expected to be between 100-200mm, with some areas exceeding 250mm.
In anticipation of Typhoon Yagi, food stores and supermarkets such as Winmart and Winmart+, and Mineral Supermarket have proactively stockpiled goods to ensure sufficient supply for the market.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tam, Director of Tam Huong Agricultural and Service Cooperative, which currently operates two stores selling and showcasing Tam Huong OCOP products in Tuyen Quang city, said that yesterday and this morning, the number of customers doubled compared to normal. Regarding supply, the store has its own source of food, including vegetables, fruits, pork, and chicken, produced by the cooperative itself, allowing for self-sufficiency. For other food items, the store collaborates with production and livestock facilities in and outside the province, enabling them to promptly import additional supplies to meet customer demand.
According to Mr. Loc Kim Lien, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, the Department of Industry and Trade, along with other departments, agencies, and localities, regularly monitors the supply and demand and prices of goods to regulate the market. Initial inspections have shown no shortages or localized price spikes of essential goods in the area, and the inspection, control, and stabilization of the market are being prioritized by relevant authorities.
