For about a week now, in the coastal areas of Thach Van, Thach Tri, and Thach Hai communes ( Ha Tinh City), a large number of people have flocked to the sea to catch snails and shrimp.

Small snails (locally known as "slipper snails") are often purchased by traders to feed lobsters. Currently, the price of small snails ranges from 300,000 to 320,000 VND per quintal.

According to fishermen, in mid-March and early April each year, tons of snails and prawns usually wash ashore, so people take advantage of the opportunity to catch them to earn extra income.

Mr. Vo Cong Thong (Duc Phu Hamlet, Thach Trung Ward, Ha Tinh City) shared: " We formed a group of 5 strong and skilled fishermen to catch snails and prawns. For over a month, the group has traveled through many sea areas in Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces. For the past week, we have focused on fishing in Ha Tinh's coastal areas such as Thach Tri, Thach Hoi, Cam Nhuong... The peak season for catching snails and prawns is usually in March, lasting about 1-2 months, so we take advantage of every day to catch as many as possible."

To catch this type of snail, fishermen must prepare homemade rakes that are 1.2-1.5m high, with an attached stainless steel rake and a mesh bag about 5m long to hold the snails.

" From early morning, we went down to the sea to collect snails. To collect a lot, we had to walk backward, constantly pushing the rake so that the snails would get into the net, and the smaller grains of sand would fall out. Being used to the seafaring profession, collecting snails wasn't too strenuous; in about 20-30 minutes, I could collect 30-40 yens of snails, " shared Ms. Ngo Thi Tu (Toan Thang village, Thach Tri commune, Ha Tinh city).

After the nets are full of snails, the fishermen pull them ashore and empty them into sacks weighing 5-7 quintals each for easy collection by traders. It's peak season, so a large number of snails are washed ashore. Therefore, fishermen stay out at sea from early morning until around 3-4 PM. On average, each fisherman can harvest 2-3 quintals of snails per day, while strong, skilled fishermen, especially those who find a good spot, can harvest 5-6 quintals per day.
