Cordyceps sinensis has long been known for its ability to boost immunity, support the treatment of chronic diseases, and improve overall health. However, this naturally occurring mushroom is rare and expensive, limiting its accessibility for consumers. Recognizing the potential of cordyceps sinensis and a desire to bring this product closer to the community, in 2020, Mr. Pham Van Tuan began his journey of researching and producing artificial cordyceps sinensis in his hometown.
In the early stages of production, from sourcing high-quality strains and controlling cultivation conditions to ensuring the content of valuable active ingredients in cordyceps, everything required specialized knowledge and perseverance. To achieve this, Mr. Tuan enrolled in training courses, visited research institutes, and learned from successful models in Phu Tho and other provinces. Through numerous failures, he gradually perfected a closed-loop cultivation process, applying modern technology to create high-quality cordyceps products. In 2022, his Nam Duong cordyceps production facility registered to participate in the OCOP product evaluation for "Nam Duong Cordyceps" and was certified as a 3-star product.
Nam Duong High-Tech Agricultural Cooperative in Yen Ky commune implements production steps that ensure safety and quality, meeting the OCOP 3-star product standards.
Building on his initial successes, in 2024, he established the Nam Duong High-Tech Agricultural Cooperative with 7 members. With a total investment of approximately 1.5 billion VND, Mr. Tuan built a 400m² workshop and invested in modern equipment such as: a microbial culture cabinet, a sterilization autoclave, a freeze dryer, and a cultivation room system. The cooperative's workshop is equipped with modern air treatment technology, ensuring a sterile environment and precise temperature and humidity control for optimal mushroom mycelium growth, guaranteeing consistent product quality. The cooperative sources its raw materials from local farmers, ensuring quality and traceability. The application of high technology in production not only increases productivity but also ensures product safety, preserves nutritional value, and builds consumer trust.
To date, the cooperative has built a widespread distribution network from North to South through agents, functional food stores, and supermarkets. On average, the cooperative supplies about 70kg of cordyceps mushrooms to the market each month, earning a profit of approximately 800 million VND per year after deducting expenses. The cooperative is currently completing the application process to develop an additional product, "Dat To Cordyceps," to obtain OCOP certification in the near future. Mr. Pham Van Tuan, Director of the cooperative, shared: "With the vast market potential, the cooperative will continue to expand its production scale, improve quality, and build a strong brand for 'Dat To Cordyceps,' aiming for the international market. We will actively participate in trade fairs and exhibitions and boost online sales channels through our website and social media, helping our products reach more customers."
The journey of Nam Duong High-Tech Agricultural Cooperative is not only a suitable step in the context of a market increasingly demanding quality and traceability, but also demonstrates the effectiveness of the shift in mindset from small-scale production to large-scale, concentrated, and safe production. Driven by a desire to get rich, Mr. Tuan has created valuable products that protect public health, contributing to affirming the position of Phu Tho agricultural products in the market.
