In 1972, Mr. Trong joined the revolution, operating in various areas across the provinces of Dak Lak , Gia Lai, and Khanh Hoa. In 1973, he was wounded in Xuan Phuoc commune. After treatment, he continued his duties at Phu Khanh Prison and then served in the 96th Cam Ranh Battalion and the 98th Training Battalion during the period of 1977-1978.
In 1979, Mr. Trong returned to his hometown of An Hiep commune (formerly Tuy An district) and participated in local work. In 2006, he was trusted by the people and elected as the Party Branch Secretary and Head of Phu Xuan village. Currently, he is the Party Branch Secretary and Head of the Front Committee of Phu Xuan village, O Loan commune.
Recalling the Phu Xuan area in the late 1990s, Mr. Trong remembered that it was still a desolate place, overgrown with trees, with difficult roads, and many areas still had unexploded bombs and mines from the war, so very few people dared to live there.
With the spirit of a soldier of Uncle Ho's army, he reclaimed land, built houses, and started farming in this area. In the early days of establishing his livelihood, to support his family, he did all kinds of jobs, from growing sugarcane for sugar production and sugarcane pressing for hire to driving a rented vehicle to earn extra income.

After nearly 50 years of dedication to this challenging land, his family now owns nearly 10 hectares of forest land and land for growing various crops. Of this, 6 hectares of forest are not yet ready for harvest, and the main source of income comes from over 3 hectares of crops, yielding a profit of over 280 million VND per year after deducting expenses. He largely applies automation to his farming practices and uses bio-fertilizers to reduce costs and improve production efficiency.
Not only is Mr. Trong a successful businessman , but he is also very dedicated and enthusiastic about social work. As the Party Secretary of Phu Xuan village, he regularly visits each household to understand their circumstances and find ways to support their economic development; he mobilizes people to participate in building new rural areas and implements the "Lighting Up Rural Roads" program to ensure safer journeys to school for children.
