The revealing outfit resembling a halter top has sparked controversy.

In recent days, images from designer Tuong Danh's New Traditional fashion show, held in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City, have become the focus of public attention.

The designs resembling halter tops in designer Tuong Danh's show sparked controversy.

In the shared photos, the image of the model wearing a traditional Vietnamese conical hat and an outfit resembling a bodice, revealing almost her entire back and buttocks, has sparked mixed reactions from the public.

In another design, a bald male model, wearing a yellow, high-necked suit, poses next to a golden bell.

Many other designs also resemble traditional ao dai and ao yem dresses but feature bold, revealing cuts.

Some praised Tuong Danh's creativity and boldness, but the majority considered the costumes offensive and inappropriate for Vietnamese customs and traditions.

Not to mention, the stitching in the design shows carelessness, poor technique, and a lack of aesthetic appeal.

On his personal page, designer Ha Nhat Tien shared his opinion regarding the controversy surrounding this collection.

He said: "I don't deny the boundless creativity of the younger generation. I admire that. But associating shocking innovations with cultural trends is unacceptable. Creativity is limitless, but the core must still have value."

A haphazardly styled halter top is inappropriate.

Speaking to Giao Thong Newspaper about these outfits, artist and ao dai researcher Nguyen Duc Binh said that, without discussing the right or wrong of modernizing traditional clothing, he personally finds these designs unattractive.

"The bodice was originally a women's undergarment. It was mostly worn at home, in private spaces like the bedroom. It shouldn't be worn casually, exposed, or displayed in public. Especially the image of the bodice being styled and worn with underwear, or showcased in a fashion show, is completely inappropriate."

Vietnamese cultural identity is discreet and profound from within, not something as revealing as that. Using a traditional aspect of the nation and expressing it in such a casual way is inappropriate.

To quote researcher Tran Hau Yen The: "This is not a rupture, but a cultural degeneration," artist Nguyen Duc Binh asserted.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Binh also questioned how the program was organized, in what context, and whether it had been reviewed and approved by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports .

"If the program has been censored, I think the management hasn't been closely monitoring the show's activities," Mr. Binh expressed.

Giao Thong Newspaper also contacted the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports and designer Tuong Danh to clarify information about the New Traditional show, but has not yet received a response.

Previously, on B&F Studio, designer Tuong Danh said: "If it were a traditional bodice, it would certainly be a different story. Here, it's a dress inspired by the bodice, but the final product has been completely transformed compared to the traditional bodice."

The young designer asserted that this halter-style dress is only a small part of the collection and hoped people would see the overall picture rather than focusing on specific details.
